In this role, you will:
- lead and direct project teams, staff, and consulting engineers on transportation projects
- provide expert engineering and technical expertise to internal and external clients and stakeholders
- lead and coordinate the delivery of information to senior management, local municipalities, and/or other stakeholders
- lead assessments for project proposals to secure funding and approvals
- oversee multi-disciplinary teams responsible for developing scope of work for projects and Requests for Proposals (RFP) documents
- You are licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or you currently have accreditation as a Professional Engineer in a Canadian Province or Territory, and you will obtain a Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) license as a condition of accepting this position.
- You possess a valid driver's license, or equivalent, as recognized by the Province of Ontario.
- You have demonstrated leadership skills to oversee and coordinate multiple large, complex, multi-disciplinary transportation projects to ensure timelines, scope, and delivery objectives are met.
- You can assign, direct and monitor work of project teams, staff and consultants, providing technical oversight and mentorship.
- You can identify and resolve complex, contentious, and high-risk issues while balancing competing priorities and stakeholder interests.
- You can lead end-to-end project delivery, including planning, design, approvals, and implementation.
You have knowledge and understanding of:
- Civil engineering theories, principles, and practices related to highway design and transportation engineering.
- Specialty areas (geotechnical, structural, pavement, drainage, etc.) integrate and how they impact project delivery.
- Engineering codes, standards, and applicable legislation (e.g., environmental, transportation, safety) and ministry policies.
- Regulatory and professional engineering requirements to provide technical guidance and ensure compliance.
- You have demonstrated project management skills to lead and deliver medium to large, multi-year transportation projects.
- You have knowledge of procurement, consultant acquisition, and contract administration practices.
- You can manage scope, schedules, budgets, risks, and performance measures to ensure successful project delivery.
- You can oversee development of Requests for Proposal, evaluate proposals, and manage consultant performance throughout project lifecycles.
- You have demonstrated analytical skills to assess complex engineering, project, and policy issues and develop solutions.
- You can evaluate technical proposals, risks, and impacts (engineering, environmental, economic, and social).
- You can research, synthesize information, and recommend appropriate solutions where guidelines may not exist.
- You demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making in high-impact, complex project environments.
- You have demonstrated communication skills to present complex technical information clearly to senior management, stakeholders, and the public.
- You can prepare reports, briefing notes, and technical documentation to support approvals and decision-making.
- You can build and maintain relationships with municipalities, Indigenous communities, agencies, consultants, and stakeholders.
- You demonstrate political acuity to manage sensitive or contentious issues and build consensus among diverse interests
