About the RoleAre you a detail-oriented payroll professional with strong cross-border experience? We are seeking a Payroll Lead to own full-cycle North American payroll operations in a fast-paced environment. Managing both Canadian and U.S. payrolls, you will ensure total compliance, accurate statutory deductions, seamless vendor relations, and precise year-end reporting. This is a hybrid role based in Canada offering great benefits and room for professional growth.
What You Will Do
Payroll Execution & Operations
- Process Payroll: Execute and audit bi-weekly and supplemental payrolls accurately and on time.
- Manage Lifecycle: Partner with HR to seamlessly process new hires, terminations, and employee changes.
- Handle Deductions: Apply accurate statutory deductions for Canada (CPP1/CPP2, EI, Fed/Prov tax) and the U.S. (FIT, FICA, FUTA/SUTA, local taxes).
- System & Vendor Ownership: Serve as the main contact for Dayforce system upgrades and manage our relationship with Dayforce Tax (TPA) for 941 and jurisdictional filings.
- Financial Reconciliations: Oversee GL account reconciliations (withholdings, liabilities) and investigate discrepancies immediately.
- Year-End Reporting: Prepare, file, and reconcile Canadian T4s/RL1s and U.S. W-2s/W-3s.
- Compliance Filings: Ensure timely submission of Records of Employment (ROEs) and handle Service Canada inquiries.
Compliance & Governance
- Stay Compliant: Ensure alignment with CRA, IRS, Employment Standards, and regional wage/hour regulations.
- Audit Support: Lead and support external audits and compliance inquiries (e.g., CRA PIER, PD4R).
- Systems & Forms: Manage the T2200 form process and provide guidance on TD-1/CPT-30 submissions.
- Process Optimization: Research new tax legislation and continuously find ways to strengthen payroll internal controls.
What You Bring (Requirements)
- Experience: 5+ years of full-cycle payroll processing experience, including 3+ years specifically in a payroll management role.
- Education: Post-secondary diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or a related field.
- Tax Knowledge: Deep, working knowledge of both Canadian and U.S. payroll legislation and year-end processes.
- Technical Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency. Hands-on experience with Dayforce and Great Plains is highly preferred.
- Certifications: PCP, CPM, or CPP designation is a strong asset (or actively in progress).
- Languages: Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
- Core Skills: Exceptional organization, strict confidentiality with sensitive data, and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
