Preparing for clinical transformation through the implementation of a new health information system (HIS) requires a dedicated team that brings together clinical and Digital expertise. We are excited to share an initial set of job opportunities to support this significant project.

The Principal HIS Educator (Clinical), will report into the Senior Manager, HIS Education, and will work closely with other project team members, as well as clinical and non-clinical subject matter experts to develop the HIS education and training approach, curriculum and materials for the clinical application(s) they are assigned to in preparation of the HIS implementation and on-going end-user education and training.
The Principal HIS Educator (Clinical) will configure the training environment, refine training documentation, as well as educate the instructors who will deliver virtual and/or classroom-based training to HIS end-users, and provide them with leadership, direction and support.
Here’s what you get to do
Develop overall training approach and curriculum for assigned clinical application(s)
Adapt base training content as required for UHN context (including training and education requirements) by consulting with clinical and non-clinical subject matter experts and project team members to understand training needs and develop training materials, conduct learning needs assessments, use best practices in teaching and learning, etc.
Design, develop and maintain instructional materials
Monitor and report training milestone achievements over the course of the initial implementation
Incorporate feedback from others and other information from evaluation?into existing training and training administration procedures on a continuous basis
Build and test training environments, and provide support and troubleshooting of issues
Gain proficiency in clinical and related workflows for the roles to be trained and serve as an expert educator to internal UHN personnel
Guided by best practices in education, train, credential and support clinical and non-clinical instructors for assigned clinical application(s) to deliver virtual classroom training to end-users
Prepare lessons, learning resources and environment (physical and online) to optimize learning experiences
Collaborate with other trainers by co-facilitating virtual and face to face classroom instruction and assist with teaching and learning as needed
Troubleshoot problems and questions from UHN team members, and follow up with them outside of the classroom to offer additional support, along with other planned pre/post training support mechanisms
Maintain policy and procedure documentation
Provide input into ongoing post-live training and support to ensure training and education sustainability
Develop, refine and/or contribute to end-user competency assessments and competency based HIS training pathways
Here’s what you need to have
Undergraduate degree and professional designation in nursing or clinical discipline
Point of care clinician who has a good grasp of UHN’s policies, procedures, workflows and best practices
Training analysis and adult education experience is an asset
Experience in large IT clinical transformation in a healthcare setting is an asset
Experience in project management and/or systems implementation experience is an asset
Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment and be results-oriented
Certifications (PMP, Lean/Six Sigma Black Belt, ITIL, IIBA, Change Management) is an asset
Epic Cupid Certified is an asset
Experience in Cardiology is preferred
Strong instructional design skills
Strong communication, presentation and facilitation skills – both written and verbal
Flexibility with respect to required changes in training content and delivery methods
Ability to work without close supervision, taking ownership of work activities and ensuring training sessions and supporting materials meet required standards
Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment and be result-oriented
Ability to see things in an open-minded way and examine an idea or concept from as many angles as possible
Ability and willingness to take ownership of work activities and ensure that they are completed accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner
Ability to learn new content and leverage that knowledge to develop strong training programs
Being cooperative and approachable and taking time to listen to and address others' questions or concerns
Ability to develop and deliver formal presentations. This includes presenting information in a clear and interesting manner, commanding the audience's attention, developing effective materials, and handling questions or challenges from the audience
Ability to read text, identify major points, make inferences, and draw conclusions that accurately reflect the material
Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely to trainers and trainees when speaking and in writing. This includes targeting the amount, style, and content of the information to the needs of the receiver
Resilience and ability to persevere in difficult situations, overcome obstacles, and reach high levels of performance when faced with stressful work situations and time pressures
Training and certification
Completion of assigned vendor training and certification achievement in vendor application is required
