The Township of Adjala-Tosorontio is located north of the GTA, at the southwest border of Simcoe County with a population of 11,000 residents and offers rural living with proximity to urban amenities.
The Township is seeking a Temporary Full-Time Equipment Operator for a fixed-term contract up to 9 months with an immediate start.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor, the Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Township vehicles and equipment, as well as performing manual labour tasks required to support seasonal municipal infrastructure maintenance and operations. This position will be required to fulfill the role of winter maintenance, working the afternoon shift inclusive from November to April as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
· Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience in winter control operation on municipal roads.
· Demonstrated proficiency operating a standard transmission tandem truck equipped with a front plow and side wing is preferred.
· Proven experience operating heavy equipment, such as loaders, graders, tractors, and excavators, in a municipal or construction environment.
· Experience working with core municipal infrastructure is an asset.
· Completion of Good Roads training such as Snow School or TJ Mahoney Road School (Construction &/or Maintenance sections) is considered a strong asset.
· Valid Chainsaw Operator Safety Certification.
· Completion of Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 (Temporary Conditions) training.
· Working knowledge of relevant legislation and standards, including Occupational Health & Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, and Minimum Maintenance Standards.
· Ability to perform heavy physical labour, lift up to 50 lbs, and work outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
· Valid Class D driver's licence with Z endorsement and satisfactory driving record.
· Possess satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
· On-call response time within 30 minutes to Township’s assigned Public Works Yard.
· Ability to work flexible hours including after-hours, early mornings, weekends, holidays, and respond to call-ins.
Compensation & Employment Terms: $28.44 to $35.56 per hour (2026 rates). This is a temporary contract position providing standard statutory entitlements (vacation pay and paid public holidays). Benefits are not applicable to this contract term. Eligible for OMERS pension enrollment.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7am to 3:30pm and 3pm to 11:30pm during winter operations (mid-November to mid-April) for a 40-hour workweek.
Location: Public Works Yard, 3036 Concession Rd. 4, Loretto.
