SCOPE
Reporting to the Manager, SARC, the incumbent supports the needs of Concordia students, staff and faculty who have experienced sexual violence and seek professional trauma-informed counseling at the Sexual Assault Resource Centre and education on the topic of sexual violence prevention and response.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provides individual and group counseling to students, staff and faculty who have experienced sexual violence to assess their situation and problems and determine the types of services required.
• Support survivors to develop coping skills and strategies for managing impact of trauma and monitor improvement.
• Develop and implement treatment plans.
• Provide counsel and therapy to assist clients in developing skills to deal with and resolve their social and personal problems.
• Support survivors in navigating the University and secure and refer them to external resources for optimal support.
• Keep case files and session notes for both individual and group counseling.
• Serve as a member on interdisciplinary teams of professionals working with client groups.
• Provide education/information on best practices in sexual violence prevention and response to be included in workshop materials and/or in form of presentation to the internal community.
• Update the SARC Manager as needed and for case management purposes.
• Provide support to the drop-in volunteers who work with survivors.
• Keep up to date on therapeutic approaches and best practices when working with survivors of sexual violence.
REQUIREMENTS
• Master’s Degree in Social Work and two to four years of clinical experience working with individuals and groups experiencing trauma.
• Licensed member of the OTSTCFQ (Ordre des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec).
• Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English and good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken French to provide individual and group support to students, staff and faculty, as well as to consult with internal and external resources, maintain proper record keeping and deliver workshops and presentations.
• Knowledge of additional languages is an asset.
• Basic knowledge of Word and Excel, to create and update documents and spreadsheets.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to deal sensitively with individuals as well as to speak to groups.
• Aptitude to work in a service-oriented environment as both a member of a team and independently.
• Familiar with current research and best practices in providing support to survivors of sexual violence is an asset.
• Approachability (is sensitive and patient with others) and composure (is a calming influence in a difficult situation) is an asset.
