Our organization is seeking a qualified Senior Laboratory/Research Technologist to be a member of our Analytical Testing Services team in Calgary, AB. The Analytical Team provides a full range of analytical testing capabilities of polymer and raw materials to our clients in Manufacturing, R&D, and Technical Services, and ultimately supports the development and commercialization of new polyethylene products. As a member of the team, you may get the opportunity to work across various labs and across our two Innovation sites depending on business need.
You Will Use Your Expertise To:
This position requires an immediate focus on the support of analysis in our Main Analytical Laboratory, where we perform analyses utilizing an array of chromatographic and other analytical techniques such as GC, GC-MS, GCxGC, ICP-MS and Karl Fisher titrations. Your responsibilities will include:
Prepare and test samples following established Laboratory Test Procedures (LTPs)
Perform routine and non-routine tests and analyses using the appropriate technical equipment and instrumentation, with quality controls in place
Process, analyze data, generate analytical reports, and report results using LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System)
Lead or actively support method development projects
Update LTPs, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and other documentation as required in your role
Provide extensive client support on analytical tests and techniques to ensure proper understanding of data interpretation and selection of appropriate analytical protocols
Maintain and adhere to Responsible Care laboratory practices: Facility Change Management, chemical handling, waste disposal, peer feedback, fume hood & oven checks, chemical inventory, cylinder handling, pressure equipment
Train and mentor laboratory staff on analytical tests and preparation methods
Become a competent equipment steward including calibration, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting
Conduct document reviews and updates and manage consumable supply inventories
Participate in the LIMS room sample retains management process
Maintain a clean work area, practice safe work habits, including complying with all safety, health, and environmental protocols
As a member of the Analytical Team, you will also be responsible for becoming proficient and knowledgeable on a wide range of chemical analytical tests and techniques
What We Are Looking For:
The successful candidate will possess a Diploma in Chemical Laboratory Technology or B.Sc. in Chemistry, with 10+ years of related experience and a demonstrated track record of success. In addition, the potential candidate must:

Be well organized, flexible, and comfortable working under pressure with multiple deadlines
Possess good analytical and numerical skills, advanced skills with Microsoft Excel for data collection and processing
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
Have experience working with potentially hazardous materials
Be comfortable with bending, reaching, pushing, pulling and reach overhead in accordance with safe ergonomic practices
Hands-on experience as an Analytical Chemist in an industrial or service laboratory setting is considered a must
Experience in the analysis of polymers, catalysts and petrochemical samples would be consider a strong asset
