The Opportunity
Position Title: Health & Recovery Supervisor
Reports To: Manager, Health & Recovery Services
Employment Type: 0.88FTE
Schedule: 40 hours per rotation, 4 on/4 off, 2100 – 0700.
Location: 1 Dermot Baldwin Way SE, Calgary, Alberta
About the Department
Our Urban Response program is made up of two core programs: our Episodic Medical Care Clinic (EMCC), a nurse led clinic that offers a wide range of episodic health services, and Rapid Response Team (RRT), interdisciplinary team who responds to medical emergency in the agency. The department aims to provide trauma informed, person centered care within each interaction and crisis.
Our Recovery- Orientated System of Care (ROSC) is a multi-faceted department that aims to support in two primary areas; Withdrawal Management (WDM) and Recovery Transition (RT). These programs work interconnectedly, providing short term supports for guests withdrawing from substances and a transitional program for those who have completed detoxification programs. Our robust team made up of social and medical professionals work in tandem to support our guests where they are at, to end homelessness one person at a time.
What You’ll Do
Every role at the DI makes a difference. In this position, you will:
- Lead frontline operations across Health & Recovery Services programs, driving exceptional service delivery, guiding client flow from admission to discharge, and making real-time decisions that support safe, effective, and client-centered care.
- Coordinate staffing and service resources, respond to incidents and emerging needs, and empower teams through hands-on operational leadership, debriefing, and continuous support in a fast-paced environment.
- Lead, mentor, and develop passionate frontline teams, championing employee growth, engagement, and wellbeing while cultivating a positive, supportive, and purpose-driven workplace culture.
- Build and strengthen the teams by supporting recruitment, onboarding, performance development, and employee relations, while creating a psychologically safe and inclusive workplace where people feel valued, supported, and set up for success.
- Drive excellence in client outcomes by delivering direct care within your professional scope, advancing quality improvement initiatives, and promoting best practices in documentation, safety, infection prevention, and risk management.
- Partner with teams to navigate complex client situations, providing crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and de-escalation support while advancing trauma-informed, harm reduction, and recovery-oriented care.
- Shape continuous improvement efforts by identifying emerging trends, advancing best practices, and partnering on strategic initiatives that enhance program effectiveness, service quality, and client outcomes.
As a leader, you’ll balance compassion with accountability, ensuring coordinated, high-quality, client-centered care. You’ll mentor a diverse and talented team, foster collaboration, and help shape recovery programming that changes lives.

What we need from you
- Completion of an accredited Practical Nursing (LPN)
- Registration with the College LPN’s and HCA’s of Alberta (CLHA)
- Valid Professional Liability Insurance.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Minimum five (5) years of nursing experience, preferably within addictions, mental health, community health, primary care, withdrawal management, recovery services, outreach services, and/or the homeless-serving system of care.
- Demonstrated experience supporting interdisciplinary teams within a healthcare or social services environment.
- Strong knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care, Harm Reduction, and Recovery-Oriented Practice.
- Strong understanding of addiction, mental health, homelessness, social determinants of health, and acute medical concerns.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, mentorship, conflict resolution, and performance coaching.
- Strong understanding of clinical documentation standards, quality improvement processes, and risk management principles.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex and evolving environment.
- Must be acceptable of industry risks, including contact with bodily fluids.
- Ability to provide a satisfactory vulnerable sector clearance check
- A genuine commitment to the mission, vision, values, and work of the agency.
Nice to Have’s
- Minimum two (2) years of progressive leadership experience, including staff supervision, coaching, performance management, scheduling, quality improvement, and workforce planning an asset.
- Lived experience an asset but not a requirement. We ask that those with lived experience are two or greater years in their recovery; less may be considered if all other qualifications are met.
- Working knowledge of privacy legislation and information management practices, including HIA, FOIP, PIPA, and PIPEDA, considered an asset.
