Layout Technician

This position will perform a variety of design and product support tasks. They will work closely with personnel from the design department during the Layout stage as well as provide support to manufacturing personnel when required.


  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of SolidWorks
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes (CNC machining, welding, sheet metal).
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and ask questions as needed
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • Critical thinking and problem solving ability
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word & Excel
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Possess good judgment and high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to follow and retain instructions
  • Ability to performs basic engineering calculations
  • Knowledge of imperial system and fractions
  • Experience in using CAM

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Generate solid models, detail sheet metal parts and weldment drawings
  • Generate manufacturing detail drawings and production drawings
  • Generate assembly drawings with BOM
  • Ability to read blue prints and mechanical drawings
  • Conduct layout dimensional inspections
  • Review layouts and ensure appropriate documentation for projects
  • Work with production team to optimize production of components
  • Design mechanical components and assemblies
  • Flexibility to help in other areas as needed
  • Provide manufacturing and assembly support
  • Incorporate engineering updates into documentation
  • Assume responsibility for accuracy of work within the scope and ensure quality.

Required education:

  • Post-Secondary in a mechanical related field

Required experience:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience using Solidworks 2013 or higher
  • Knowledge of CNC programming
