Position Summary
The Shipping & Receiving Clerk is responsible for receiving, storing, issuing, and shipping goods and materials in support of hotel operations. The position ensures that deliveries are accurately received, documented, stored, and distributed in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
Receiving Functions
- Receive deliveries of food, beverage, operating supplies, equipment, and other materials
- Verify deliveries against purchase orders, invoices, and packing slips for accuracy and completeness
- Inspect goods for damage or discrepancies and report issues in accordance with established procedures
- Record receiving information accurately using approved documentation and systems
- Ensure proper handling, storage, rotation, and security of received items
Shipping & Distribution Functions
- Issue and distribute supplies to departments in accordance with approved requisitions
- Prepare items for shipment or transfer as required
- Maintain organized and secure storage areas, including storerooms and receiving docks
- Assist with inventory counts and stock rotation in accordance with established procedures
General Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of the receiving and storage areas
- Follow workplace health, safety, and WHMIS requirements
- Operate material-handling equipment (e.g., carts, pallet jacks) in accordance with training and safety guidelines
- Communicate effectively with Purchasing, Accounting, and operational departments
- Complete assigned logs, reports, and documentation related to shipping and receiving activities
- Perform other related duties as assigned, provided such duties are consistent with this classification and the Collective Bargaining Agreement
Qualifications
- Previous experience in shipping and receiving, warehouse, or hospitality stores preferred
- Basic computer and record-keeping skills
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Knowledge of safe material-handling practices
- Ability to work cooperatively in a unionized environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry items in accordance with safe lifting practices and applicable policies
- Ability to use carts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment
- Ability to lift, pull or carry up to 50lbs on your own
