Landscape construction and winter snow work
V.I.L. Landscaping is looking for a reliable, hardworking Landscape Construction Apprentice who already has landscaping experience or knows how to safely operate landscaping and construction equipment.
This is a hands-on position for someone who understands the basics and wants to develop advanced hardscaping, equipment operation, and crew-leadership skills.
You don’t need to be an expert, but you must have practical landscaping or construction experience and be comfortable using common tools or equipment.
This is a long-term development opportunity designed to help you grow into a Hardscape Foreman.
Required Experience
Applicants must have at least one of the following:
- Previous landscaping, hardscaping, or outdoor construction experience
- Experience safely operating landscaping or construction equipment
Applicants without relevant field experience or equipment knowledge will not be considered.
What You’ll Do
- Help build patios, walkways, retaining walls, steps, and outdoor spaces
- Assist with excavation, grading, drainage, and base preparation
- Move and install soil, gravel, stone, and other materials
- Safely use hand tools, power tools, compactors, and saws
- Operate equipment based on your demonstrated experience
- Assist with concrete, cutting, masonry, carpentry, and planting
- Load and unload trucks and trailers
- Keep job sites clean, organized, and safe
- Help the crew meet daily production and quality targets
- Participate in snow and ice operations during winter
- Accept increasing responsibility as your skills develop
Equipment Experience
Experience using any of the following is a strong advantage:
- Skid steer
- Mini excavator
- Dingo or compact utility loader
- Plate compactor
- Masonry or concrete saw
- Laser level
- Zero-turn mower
- Snowplow or salt spreader
- Pickup truck and trailer
- Common landscaping power tools

A valid Ontario G driver’s licence and reliable transportation are strongly preferred.
Your Development Path
Year 1: Strengthen your knowledge of safety, tools, materials, and job-site fundamentals.
Year 2: Develop advanced grading, cutting, installation, and equipment-operation skills.
Year 3: Read plans and lead smaller parts of a project.
Year 4: Help coordinate team members, materials, production, and quality.
Year 5: Become ready to manage a hardscape crew.
Advancement is based on skill, reliability, productivity, quality, and leadership—not simply time on the job.
