The Role
We are hiring a high-level bartender to execute behind our bar at volume. This is a craft role with serious technical demands. Our Bar Manager runs the program alongside our hospitality manager; what we need from you is exceptional execution, hospitality at the bar, and the ability to lift the team around you.
If you are a bartender in Toronto on a path of creating a name for yourself instead of your team, this job is not for you.

Requirements:

Valid Smart Serve certification
-
4+ years of bartending experience in a high-volume craft cocktail bar
-
Proven ability to execute chit times under 5 minutes without sacrificing quality

Strong technical execution: speed, consistency, balance, and presentation under volume

Working knowledge of the Toronto hospitality and cocktail industry, including current operators, programs, and trends

Demonstrated knowledge of classic cocktails, spirits categories, and modern technique

Able to stand for 8-hour shifts and lift 40 lbs

Minimum 4 days of availability per week, including weekends

Available to work nights, weekends, and holidays

Willing to participate in industry events and Toronto industry education sessions

Personal commitment to ongoing self-directed learning in spirits, cocktails, service, and personal development on your own time as part of the role

Open to feedback and continued growth at the bar, regardless of experience level coming in
Key Responsibilities:

Execute the cocktail menu to spec at high volume, holding chit times under 5 minutes without dropping quality

Deliver genuine, polished hospitality to every guest at the bar

Manage your station: prep, mise en place, stock levels, and cleanliness throughout service

Teach and support the bartenders, barbacks, and servers around you, raising the floor for the whole team

Collaborate with the Bar Manager on execution and follow the program as set

Contribute constructively to team tastings and training when invited

Uphold the standards that keep Civil Works on the world's best bar lists
Qualifications:

Proven track record bartending in high-volume craft cocktail programs

Speed and consistency are non-negotiable; you can prove both

Compensation: Tips distributed weekly electronically, pay hourly, discounts at the hall on food, 4% vacation pay paid out each pay cycle.
