Job Profile: Sr Analyst, Commodities

Reports to: Director, Commodities

Under the leadership of the Director, Commodities, the Sr Analyst, Commodities provides analytical support to the team by reviewing and analyzing changes to cost of goods and producing materials to support Loblaw strategic sourcing initiatives.

Cost Increase Management

Review, analyze, and communicate findings on all proposed cost increases. Coordinate with other managers on the commodities team, merchandising, procurement, and control brand sourcing teams in the management of each negotiation
Prepare reports detailing the activities of the team on cost negotiations to be published to stakeholders in each area of the business and senior leadership
Cost Improvement & Strategic Sourcing

Identify opportunities for cost reductions throughout the business based on market data. Generate materials for the Director, Commodities to achieve these cost reductions through negotiations with vendors
Document and report on all Commodities managed buying agreements, including futures market bookings with suppliers and final item costs. Socialize this information with merchandising, procurement, and Loblaw Brands (control label) teams
Identify opportunities for rollout of additional commodity-based costing agreements. Support the improvement of existing deals and create the framework for expansion of the program to include more commodity driven cost models.
Coordinate with George Weston Limited Treasury team in generating market insights to inform the decision-making process around risk management decisions for LCL’s commodity-cost agreements.
Process Improvement

Develop a category commodity database driving specific product price indexes. Incorporate this with associated LCL financials to inform decision making by category and target cost reduction initiatives
Develop new reporting tools to improve the visibility of team activities to business stakeholders, and improve on existing distributions to better serve the audiences
Work with costing team, merchandising, and control brand sourcing to socialize LCL compliance policies, and ensure adherence to our required practices

University degree in business, economics, mathematics, or a related field
1-3 years relevant experience with foundational understanding of commodity markets, procurement, or merchandising
Strong problem solving and analytical skills, a curious & creative thinker with an ability to apply new knowledge
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including some experience with macros
Ability to self-initiate and work independently and as part of a team to deliver results
Strong written and oral communication, and time management skills
