Job Description

Job Summary:

Perform bookkeeping and data entry for all aspects of small business accounting such as recording, posting and processing day to day transactions using accounting software. This includes Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, account reconciliation, preparing financial statements, year-end preparation and reporting for several small business clients of various business types.

Duties:

  • Sorting of income and expense receipts
  • Recording source documents such as invoices, receipts, bills, cheques to the appropriate

accounts

  • Calculating and posting applicable taxes (GST and PST) and remitting to appropriate

government agencies

  • Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering applicable wage

expense data

  • Account analysis and reconciliations
  • Entering capital assets, additions, disposals and amortizations
  • Comply with municipal, provincial and federal reporting or remitting requirements in a timely

manner

  • Month-end preparation
  • Year-end preparation
  • Maintain orderly accounting records;
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Experience performing full range of bookkeeping/accounting duties, as noted above
  • Experience using MS Excel, specifically preparing spreadsheets
  • Experience using MS Word in the preparation of month-end and year-end reports
  • Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks and Sage
  • Accounting or bookkeeping education such as Applied Accounting is an asset
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to function with initiative and independence and able to make sound decisions to carry out assigned responsibilities. Must be able to determine priorities to fulfill duties as required
  • Possess effective and efficient work methods while working under minimum supervision
  • Interact professionally with a variety of people: clients, business owners, service providers, government agencies and the general public
  • Ability to work as part of a team to accomplish common goals
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
