Armour Transportation Systems is currently seeking a full-time Terminal Supervisor - Nights at our Dartmouth, Nova Scotia location. The Evening Terminal Supervisor is responsible for the safe and efficient management of freight flow across the dock. This role involves overseeing the cross dock and Pepsi docks, monitoring communications via email and phone, and ensuring the accuracy of freight bills. You will lead dispatch operations as necessary to meet our service commitments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Safety Oversight: Monitor and address safety concerns, ensuring compliance with safety protocols (e.g., wearing safety vests, steel-toe shoes) and maintaining dock cleanliness and order.
Freight Management: Review Key Performance Indicator (KPI) screens to stay informed about freight availability and status.
Collaborative Communication: Work closely with the Dock Supervisor to coordinate the loading and unloading of units, ensuring timely transitions.
Equipment Utilization: Ensure appropriate equipment is used for outbound lanes, including LCV (Long Combination Vehicle), logistic posts, and temperature-controlled units, in coordination with the supervisor.
Timely Order Processing: Oversee the loading of “Rush” orders to guarantee they are dispatched on time.
LTL Delivery Management: Ensure all dedicated LTL (Less Than Truckload) and straight truck units are loaded promptly for early morning cutoffs.
Effective Coordination: Maintain clear communication with dock staff and supervisors to ensure operational expectations are met, particularly regarding Reweigh and Cube goals.
Process Improvement: Conduct formal Cross Dock tours as directed, utilizing the Dock Office Control tool to identify and escalate variances for the Continuous Improvement Program.
Meeting Participation: Attend scheduled meetings, including Transition, Daily Review, and Weekly Shift Meetings, to stay aligned with team objectives.
Correspondence Management: Respond to emails and voicemails within established timelines to ensure effective communication.
Dispatch Support: Provide oversight and assistance to dispatch, including managing sick calls and locating drivers as needed.
Crew Supervision: Monitor the performance of the ALB dock and Pepsi dock crews throughout your shift, offering assistance and guidance to ensure operational success.

- Ensuring terminal safety and compliance with programs like LTIF (Lost Time Injury Frequency) and back-to-work initiatives.
- Managing near-miss reports and personal performance metrics.
- Fostering people development and optimal staff utilization while meeting assigned KPIs.
Quality:
- Maintaining high standards of service through reduced claims and ensuring dispatch accuracy.
Service:
- Monitoring and improving On-Time Delivery Percentage to meet or exceed service expectations.
Cost:
- Maximizing Cube and Reweigh Revenue.
- Ensuring efficient labor utilization by managing worked hours, pounds per man-hour, and bills per man-hour.
- Monitoring and optimizing outbound loading weight.
Education Requirements:
- High School Diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent.
- Beneficial but not required: CITT (Canadian Institute of Traffic and Transportation), Business certificate, or relevant industry certification.
Technical Skills:
- Experience with TMW System is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with the ability to create detailed reports.
- Strong typing skills.
- Excellent public speaking ability, capable of conveying messages to large groups.
Additional Duties:
- Perform any other tasks or responsibilities assigned by management.
