Position Overview
We are seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to join our Kelowna team. The successful candidate will have strong civil construction experience and the ability to safely and efficiently operate equipment while working collaboratively with supervisors, labourers, and other operators to complete projects on schedule and to a high standard.
Operators will work on a variety of projects including road construction, subdivision development, earthworks, and underground utility installation.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers, and backhoes in a civil construction environment.
- Perform detailed excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, stockpiling, loading, sloping, and finishing work.
- Read and interpret engineered drawings, plans, and grade specifications.
- Accurately cut lines and grades for sewer, water, storm, and conduit installations.
- Safely excavate around existing utilities, including gas, hydro, communication, and other buried infrastructure.
- Perform site preparation, road building, and general earthworks.
- Complete daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks.
- Maintain accurate daily records and communicate production updates, hazards, equipment concerns, and delays to supervisors.
- Work effectively with project teams to meet safety, quality, and production goals.
- Assist outside of the machine when required to support the crew and project needs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of civil construction experience operating heavy equipment.
- Proven experience operating excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers, and/or backhoes.
- Strong understanding of civil construction practices, grades, and underground utilities.
- Experience with GPS machine control systems is considered an asset.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Strong safety record and commitment to safe work practices.
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable with a strong work ethic.
- Ability and willingness to work extended hours when required.
- Willingness to travel to surrounding areas for project work.
