The Role
The Strategic Sourcing Lead drives cost savings by leading sourcing projects, negotiating major contracts, managing suppliers, and improving procurement processes. The role works with operations to support purchasing, inventory, and delivery needs, while also supervising staff and ensuring compliance with procurement policies.
Key Accountabilities
- Identify and deliver cost reduction opportunities, strategic sourcing initiatives, and spend consolidation projects that deliver reduced total cost of ownership, while streamlining procurement processes.
- Meeting and managing department Service Level KPI’s.
- Work jointly with operating managers to make purchasing, shipping and inventory decisions that meet operational needs and optimize procurement processes to enhance the economic benefit to the organization.
- Expedite deliveries to ensure optimum inventory levels, to implement and enforce purchasing systems and processes, and to develop and sustain vendor relationships.
- Negotiate strategic/complex contracts for major commodities and services, including vendor contract administration.
- Ensure distribution networks and equipment supplies are in place and adequate to support operational needs, and reliability needs of our internal customers and suppliers.
- Negotiate contracts to minimize the total cost of ownership for supply of goods and services.
- Manage pertinent major contracts to ensure compliance of service and product delivery reliability.
- Assign duties/work to direct report(s) and assist with setting priorities; monitor performance effectiveness; provide suggestions and corrective actions where necessary; identify training needs and review with management.
- Ensure compliance with Corporate and Procurement policies and procedures.
Core Competencies and Skills Required
- Must have a university degree in Engineering or Business.
- CPSM/SCMP/CPP or equivalent, MBA, or Professional Engineering designations are assets.
- Minimum 10 years in a supervisory role is required, and Minimum 10 years of procurement experience, across an array of high value commodities including consumables, MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations), and major Capital projects.
- Minimum 7 years of experience may be considered.
- Experience in the mining and metals industry is preferred.
- Expertise in contract management and negotiations.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic, cross-functional team atmosphere.
- Excellent communication, presentation and report writing skills.
- Very strong SAP and MS Office skills including Word, Excel and Power Point.
This posting is for an existing salaried union (2724) vacancy that is located on-site in Sault Ste. Marie.
The monthly salary range for this position is $8,803.04 - $11,003.80, commensurate with education and experience. In addition to a competitive salary, Algoma Steel offers a profit sharing plan, a comprehensive benefits package, and a defined contribution pension plan.
