Position Overview:
A confidential search is underway for a Vice-President of Finance to join the senior leadership team for a Burnaby, BC based company. This role is being recruited as part of a planned leadership transition, with the current VP of Finance.
The Vice-President of Finance will contribute to the company’s success through financial planning and analysis, setting and overseeing internal controls, overseeing all aspects of accounting and payroll operations, annual insurance policy renewals, monitoring cash flow, and managing tax compliance.
The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, sound business acumen and strategic thinking, excellent communication skills, numerical proficiency, and high leadership IQ. Key Areas of Accountability:
- Demonstrate an on-going commitment to continuous improvement by implementing systems, structure, policy and/or process enhancements that improve the quality of the Finance department’s products and services and/or the efficiency and/or effectiveness of a major business process used to operate the organization.
- Executes thorough and proactive financial planning and analysis to support the organization’s continued growth and financial health.
- Responsible for the overall management of accounting and finance operations, working closely with the operations team, to ensure timely and accurate financial results and effective financial controls.
- Responsible for all long-range financial matters and to establish company-wide financial and administrative objectives, policies, programs, and practices, which ensure the company of a continuously sound financial structure.
- Work with the finance and accounting team to ensure compliance with internal and external reporting requirements.
- Develop and implement accounting policies, coordination of systems and procedures, and the preparation of operating data and special reports as required including interim and year-end financial statements. Maintain the company's system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets.
- Provides leadership and direction to the team, ensures adherence to all policies and procedures, motivates and leads by example, and provides a supportive learning environment.
- Retains continuous awareness of the company’s financial position and acts decisively to maintain a sound financial position at all times.
- Performs analysis of and provides input into the company’s pricing strategy.
- Review and approve all agreements concerning financial obligations, such as contracts for products or services and other actions requiring a commitment of financial resources.
- Administers banking arrangements and loan agreements. Maintains adequate sources for the company's current borrowings from commercial banks and other lending institutions.
- Oversees the granting of credit and the collection of accounts due to the company, including supervision of required special arrangements for financing.
- Helps design, implement, and monitor key financial and operational controls to ensure an effective control environment. Reviews the Company's weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results and through the financial results reviews, identifies, and corrects any errors.
- Leads annual budgeting process and the preparation of forecasts.
- Liaises with executive team, operations management, and outside stakeholders to ensure operational business objectives are established and aligned with corporate strategic objectives.
- Liaises and communicates effectively with all appropriate departments.
- Oversee all audit and internal control operations.
- Ensure adherence to financial laws and guidelines.
- Handles and supports legal matters on behalf of the company.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in a Senior Leadership role within Finance.
- Bachelor’s Degree with a Major in Finance or Accounting is strongly preferred.
- CPA designation is required.
- 10 years of people management experience overseeing accounting and finance professionals and staff at all levels.
- Ability to act with considerable independence, discretion, and professional judgement.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of the senior management team
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Experience using various accounting software programs.
- Proficient user of MS Office.
Compensation:
In accordance with British Columbia’s Pay Transparency Act, the expected salary range for this position is $120,000 to $180,000 annually. Please note that the posted compensation range reflects market data whereas the company’s philosophy on compensation is to compensate the ideal candidate for what value and experience they will bring to role and the company. Final compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s skills, experience, qualifications, and overall alignment with the requirements of the role. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package includes eligibility for an annual bonus, paid time off, and a comprehensive benefits program.
Pay: $120,000.00-$180,000.00 per year
