Reporting to the Nutrition Manager and under the direction of the Chef/Cook as required, the Dietary Support Aide is responsible for optimal food service to residents in accordance with the vision, mission and values statements of the long term care home.
Key Activities
- Assists the care team in providing non-care related activities, including:
- Assists in maintaining the dietary department in a safe and sanitary manner
- Provides assistance to the Cook in the preparation and service of meals and snacks
- Assists in monitoring quality of food supplies received and advises the Nutrition Manager/Cook of problems
- Follows proper safe food handling techniques
- Dates, labels, and stores food properly
- Keeps work area clean and uncluttered, and completes scheduled cleaning duties
- Maintains cleanliness of floors in the food preparation, dish room, and storage areas
- Assists in the preparation of food and fluids required for Resident meal and snack services, and catering as assigned
- Assists in serving meals and beverages, following residents' nutrition care profile
- Adheres to scheduled meal and snack times
- Uses equipment and supplies as properly outlined by NM
- Sets and cleans dining tables and trays as required
- Assists in dish and pan washing, storage, and general cleaning duties
- Follows appropriate health and safety procedure
- Alerts Nutrition Manager to problems and makes recommendations about corrective action
- Other duties as assigned
Operational & Administrative Systems:
- Attends in-service education sessions, staff meetings, and workshops as directed
- Participates actively in department's Quality Management program and any department/home committees as requested
Other:
- Performs other related duties as required
Education:
- Secondary School diploma
- Safe Food Handling certificate
- Must complete in-house training before commencing duties
Skills & Abilities:
- Must have strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with seniors
- Effective time management skills
Special Requirements:
- May be exposed to communicable disease
- Must be prepared to respond to emergency situations
- Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Persons Check required
- Ability / availability to work evenings/ weekends
Job Types: Permanent, Part-time
Part-time hours: 22.5 - 37.5 per week
Salary: $20.49-$22.37 per hour
