This important position plays a pivotal role at the bank to lead and execute on the bank’s Indigenous talent acquisition strategy across Canada. The successful candidate joins a highly collaborative, engaged and supportive team and builds on the success and momentum of the last year where the bank has doubled the hires of Indigenous peoples across the country. This role is positioned for high impact aligned to BMO’s purpose to grow the good in business and life.
This key role has dual reporting into to the Recruitment Leader, CDN P&BB and the Head, Indigenous Equity & Inclusion. As the Indigenous talent acquisition strategic lead for the bank you will work in collaboration across talent acquisition teams and as an integrated part of the Indigenous Equity & Inclusion team to design, build and execute the enterprise Indigenous talent acquisition strategy which is a key facet of the overall enterprise Indigenous talent strategy.

Role and responsibilities:
Subject Matter Expert
Acts as the lead and prime subject matter expert on Indigenous talent acquisition best practices, strategies and execution.
Provides advice and counsel across talent acquisition teams on Indigenous talent acquisition, including supporting the capability building of talent acquisition teams across the bank, as well as designated business/group to execute the Indigenous talent acquisition strategy.
Acts as a subject matter expert on relevant regulations and policies.
Provides strategic input into relevant business decisions as a trusted advisor.
Identifies emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.
Provides thoughtful and effective coaching to key stakeholders and senior leaders to maximize skills/capabilities of the Indigenous candidates and creates an environment of high performance and openness.
Indigenous talent acquisition program
Directs the planning & implementation of Indigenous talent acquisition programs & solutions and executes within required service level agreements and standards.
Recommends business priorities, advises on resource requirements and develops roadmap for strategic plans and execution.
Manages resources and leads the execution of strategic initiatives to deliver on Indigenous talent acquisition goals across the enterprise lines of business.
Leads change management programs of varying scope and type, including readiness assessments, planning, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.
Monitors and tracks performance on applicable indicators, such as regular data reports, and addresses any issues.
Analyzes data and information to provide insights and recommendations. Gathers and formats data into regular and ad-hoc reports, and dashboards.
Helps determine business priorities and best sequence for execution of business/group strategy.
Completes specific operational/strategic work to deliver business results and/or minimize risk.
Makes recommendations to senior leaders on strategy and new initiatives, based on an in-depth understanding of the business/group.
Recommends measures to improve organizational effectiveness.
Develops the business case as needed by identifying needs, analysing potential options and assessing expected return on investment.
Ensures alignment across all stakeholder groups.
Conducts independent analysis to resolve strategic issues and breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
Leads the development of the communication strategy focusing on positively influencing or changing behavior and working in collaboration across applicable communications and business teams to ensure consistency.
Leads collaborative efforts across teams to ensure execution of programs; assesses and adapts as needed to ensure quality of execution.
Networks with industry contacts to gather and identify competitive insights and best practices.
Builds effective relationships and supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.
Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.
Implements changes in response to shifting trends.
Connects with external Indigenous talent through outreach and events (both online and in-person) and connects them to the right contacts in the bank for their background, skills and interests.
Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
Identifies and build relations with external, nationwide Indigenous talent acquisition partners
Manages external contracts, terms and renewals
Reviews and updates external partnerships on an annual basis
- Typically 7+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Appropriate HR designation (i.e. CHRP, ADR) a plus.
- Knowledge in Indigenous talent acquisition – Expert.

- Seasoned professional with a combination of education, experience and industry knowledge.
