We are looking to hire a Production Shift Supervisor to join our growing team! Reporting into the Production Manager / VP Supply Chain & Operations, this role is responsible for supervising and directing hourly employees to complete all shift plant activities by leading shift production, production startup activities, sanitation and cleaning of Chewters’ production equipment and facility. This position is also responsible for developing and implementing safe operating procedures and maintaining labor costs. They will ensure that all health and safety, HACCP and food safety requirements are met.
The working hours are Monday to Friday from 17:00 to 01:00
Key Duties Include:
Production Productivity and Efficiency
- Meeting scheduled production targets including line efficiencies, yields, and labour costs.
- Manage schedule for all production team members
- Ensure all required documentation is correct, complete and ready for a production start-up
- Develop, execute and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions and one-point lessons related to the production floor activities
- Ensure production staff are adhering to process control methods
- Oversee changeovers with necessary crew and maintenance personnel.
- Coordinate with procurement to ensure the necessary packaging supplies are available for the next production run.
- Coordinate the next day’s activities, ensuring the lines are ready to run at the scheduled start time.
- Minimize indirect labor through planning for downtime such as changeovers, and having alternate work available
- Conduct inventory management through the return of goods back to the warehouse such as leftover packaging, rework, and hold products. Control and maintain minimum inventory of consumable materials
- Leading R&D trials, record results & submit necessary documentation to quality team for filing
- Facilitating continuous improvement through effective problem solving, internal auditing, training, and communication strategies.
- Assisting in determining capital requirements and implementation of capital projects.
- Verify that all required documentation is completed, accurate and done timely at the end of the shift
Product Quality
- Establishes the processes to improve the effectiveness of the SQF, GFCO, Organic and Kosher Systems to demonstrate continuous improvement
- Understand, participate in and supports HACCP Plan maintenance and changes implementation
- Ensure and verify that all staff has a complete working understanding of the required food safety and quality policies and procedures including Occupational Health & Safety, HACCP and SQF codes requirements
- Arrange and implement required training (safety, food safety and food quality) keep it up to date and ensure the completion of competence and training records for department employees. Complete training verification checks to ensure the training efficiency.
Leadership and Training
- Assists the Production Manager with a change management process to build organizational understanding of proposed changes, establish support from key leadership stakeholders, and effectively implement new deployment and job models.
- Manage a team of production employees, including delegation, training, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
- Ensuring and promoting a safe and healthy work environment through leading by example, training, assisting the JHSC, corrective actions, discipline, training and effective supervision of the production staff.
- Implement cross training of staff in times of absence.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, food technology, or manufacturing engineering, or in a similar discipline
- Minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of supervisory experience in a production/manufacturing environment and with heavy employee management
- Previous experience in the food industry
- Proven track record of continuous improvement successes and efficiencies; familiar with lean manufacturing principles including: 5-S, Six Sigma and Root Cause Analysis
- Familiarity with food safety/GMP standards including HACCP

Working Conditions:
- Able to work on foot for long periods of time and performing repetitive work.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
