Position Description
An exciting opportunity to join CAMH’s dynamic Bridging Service Outpatient team. The program is currently seeking a full-time, temporary (1 year) RN. As a member of an inter-professional team, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing mental health assessment, crisis intervention, brief solution-focused treatment, brief psycho-social case management and developing and coordinating follow-up plans for patients diverted/referred by the CAMH Emergency Department and discharges from the Acute Care Inpatient Services. You will use your strong knowledge and skills in Mental Health clinical care to perform behavioral observations, risk assessments, brief crisis support, family supportive counselling, documentation per CNO standards, and effective collaborative communication with other team members. You will also possess and utilize knowledge, skill and judgement with respect to metabolic monitoring and the safe and effective administration of medications, including monitoring and mitigating side effects and monitoring for medication effectiveness. Like all interdisciplinary team members, this role will include the provision of brief supportive counselling and psycho-education to clients/patients and supporting appropriate referrals to internal and external services. This role will include triaging, screening, therapeutic interventions and disposition planning for referrals to Access CAMH, and urgent care for clients with mental health and/or addiction issues. The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of addiction medicine, crisis intervention, mental health, assessment and interventions.
The successful candidate will liaise with Access CAMH and other CAMH programs, community agencies and hospitals, and practitioners of several disciplines to coordinate care for clients. You will provide safe, competent care to clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development and partnerships with community agencies; provide education support to students, and participate in the research and evaluation activities of the service. This position will involve facilitating therapeutic groups consistent with best practices in the day and evening throughout the year. A commitment to high quality of patient and family service is required. The successful applicant will practice according to the Canadian Federation of Mental Health Nurses’ Standards for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing. The clinician will work day, evening and weekend hours.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. A current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate is also required. You must be eligible for an adjunct faculty appointment with at least one of the Faculties of Nursing in Toronto that has affiliation agreements with CAMH. You will have 2 years preferred experience working in a mental health/addictions setting. The successful candidate must have an excellent working knowledge of and competency in the areas of DSM V diagnostic criteria and addiction nursing. Knowledge of various modalities of psychotherapy, particularly brief therapy models, DBT and CBT will be an asset. Knowledge psychosocial rehabilitation principles, crisis intervention, case management and recovery are essential. Knowledge of emergency psychiatry, community resources in mental health and substance use/addiction treatment is essential. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in crisis and acute care and/or intake settings. Certification as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse (CPMHN(C) certification through the Canadian Nurses Association) is preferred. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment are required. Computer skills, including word processing, electronic communication, electronic health record documentation and workload measures are required. You will be able to work effectively as a team member in a dynamic inter-professional environment and be a self-starter. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language is an asset.

Please Note: This full-time, temporary (1 year) position is part of the ONA bargaining unit.
Salary Range: $34.24 - $49.02 per hour
