The Awake Residential Night Worker is accountable to the Residence Manager

JOB SUMMARY:
Ensures the well-being and safety of residents during the night hours assists children and youth develop life skills, social skills and/or access to community resources. Provides individual care and guidance consistent with the needs of an individual with mental health issues, behavioral challenges, developmental disabilities, or addictions. Provides stabilization through predictable structures, clear expectations and positive behavior support. Incumbents must have the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team context, and be able to demonstrate skills in basic counselling, crisis intervention, conflict resolution and problem solving, as well as written and verbal communication skills. Responsible for providing adequate staff support and ensure safety of the individuals during the graveyard shift.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· May be required to assist individuals with lifts and transfers.
· Recognizes, analyzes and deals with potential emergency situations such as individuals’ aggressive behavior to minimize potential harm to the person and/or the public. Report issues and problems to the manager.
· Transports children or youth as required in the event of an emergency or high-risk situation.
· Communicates with After Hours and emergency authorities when necessary (reporting youth absences, missing persons reports, medical emergencies, or other activities deemed to be high risk).
· Administers medication to individuals in accordance with established policies and procedures.
· Ensure health and safety standards are maintained. Attends to the physical, emotional, and medical needs of the children or youth.
· If there is a house alarm, ensure that it is on at all times for safety. Ensure all doors and windows are locked and secure. Responsible for checking that individuals are in bed or present in the program. Some individual’s room is equipped with monitors for their safety (seizures and other health problems that need to be regularly monitored)
· Responsible for following guidelines and procedure outlined on each individual’s Personal Information Binder (PIB). Assist Individual’s, if needed, during shift. When applicable, provides written and/or verbal reports regarding individuals’ daily activities and progress. Ensures that all required documentation is complete and accurate.

· Performs other related duties as required such as, but not limited to, minor repairs of the home, lawn mowing, painting, and other such regular household activities needed for the daily upkeep and maintenance of the home. Staff need to be able to lift a minimum of 5 lbs.
· Contribute to team effectiveness through clear and direct communication and participation in staff meetings.
· Is familiar with (through regular review) Milieu Children & Family Services policies, procedures, individual protocols and care plans.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
· Grade 12 education
· A minimum of 6 months experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or physical/medical/behavioral support needs or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
· Knowledgeable of and encourages each person served to develop and expand his/her methods of communication
· Demonstrated ability to facilitate relationships and connections wherein persons served expand their personal support networks and find new and meaningful relationships.
· Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook
· Negative T.B test Clearance
· Food Safe Certification where required
· Criminal Record Check for Children and Vulnerable Adults (Local and Provincial) - Clearance
· Clear Health Certificate
· Valid First Aid and CPR certification
· Clear and Current Driver’s Abstract.
· Mandt Certification (Available training- upon successful application)
· Class 7N, Class 5 or where required Class 4 unrestricted driver’s license (Preferred)
