Sitkum Consulting Ltd. is a geotechnical services consulting firm established in 2000 and based out of Nelson B.C., with a satellite office in Nakusp. SCL serves clients throughout B.C. in the natural resource (forestry, mining, energy) and transportation sectors, with an emphasis on terrain stability assessments, landslide assessments, natural hazards risk analysis, aggregate exploration and development, as well as landscape-based terrain mapping.
Position Overview: We are currently accepting applications for a permanent full-time Junior or Intermediate Geoscientist/Engineering Geologist. The successful candidate will be involved throughout the entire lifecycle of projects including project planning, office reviews, field assessments, and writing reports. The position is available immediately, but the start date is negotiable depending on the candidate’s suitability and circumstances.
The position can be based in Nelson or Nakusp B.C., in an area well renowned for world class recreational activities. This exciting opportunity involves work in remote mountainous terrain throughout the Southern Interior region with some travel to be expected. Training would begin in either the Nelson or Nakusp offices with the option to work from home part time to be considered once proven independent and proficient at tasks.

Primary Duties:
- Report writing and editing (60%): Writing and reviewing reports for professional geotechnical services using Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat software.
- Fieldwork (30%): Conducting field work for geotechnical assessments throughout B.C., although primarily in the Kootenay and Okanagan regions. The successful candidate will be able to work flexible hours in remote conditions, including steep and forested terrain. Some jobs may require working solo or operating ATVs and/or e-bikes. Previous field experience, including past geotechnical or forestry related work, will be considered an asset. Training for ATVs will be provided, if required.
- Office reviews (10%): Background research including interpretation of LiDAR map products, aerial photos, and Google Earth as well as relevant geology, surficial geology, hydrology, weather and climate, and soils data or reports.
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in a geoscience-related field (e.g. Geology, Physical Geography, Geological Engineering etc.).
- Registered, or immediately eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC. Please note that both Professional’s (P.Geo. & P.Eng.) as well as trainee’s (G.I.T. & E.I.T.) will be considered for the position.
- 0-10 years relevant work experience.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, with technical writing skills for reporting.
- Physically capable of strenuous field work in remote mountainous locations.
Summary of Compensation and Benefits:
Wage: $30-$45 hourly, to be commensurate with qualifications, knowledge and experience.
Employees are entitled to overtime compensation, holiday pay, sick leave, and a Private Health Services Plan.
