Search Brief: Director, Finance

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, the Director, Finance will lead all finance, accounting, forecasting, budgeting, and expense management activities across the organization's divisions and brands. This role partners closely with the VP, Finance and senior leadership to build financial infrastructure, drive reporting excellence, and implement effective internal controls and accounting policies that support continued growth.
Responsibilities
- Own the reporting, analysis, and interpretation of financial and operational data — cost analysis, ROI, capital budgeting, profitability analysis, and pricing models.
- Design, implement, and continuously improve financial procedures, internal controls, and reporting accuracy in line with appropriate accounting standards.
- Monitor trends across the business, industry, and broader economic conditions, and recommend course corrections to senior leadership.
- Deliver high-level financial analysis to evaluate business opportunities, capital investments, new service lines, and potential mergers or acquisitions.
- Lead and develop a team of three — Accountant, Senior Accountant, and Billing & Customer Service Supervisor — ensuring accounting, financial reporting, billing, and client service activities are completed accurately and on time, every month.
- Establish and control budgets across all departments; lead operational and capital budget preparation, year-end reporting, and forward-looking forecasts.
- Plan and manage the annual audit process, internal control operations, and audit documentation.
- Coordinate KPI reporting to support operational performance across the business.
Success Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive financial management experience in a senior-level role with direct reports.
- Demonstrated track record of presenting and advising at the senior leadership level.
- Experience within a private corporation, ideally multi-division business environment.
- Hands-on proficiency with Microsoft Dynamics financial software strongly preferred, along with the broader Microsoft Suite.
- Demonstrated ability to close the books and complete all aspects of monthly financial accounting accurately and on deadline, ideally within a 2-3 day close cycle.
- Proven experience in finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles, including federal and state/provincial financial regulations.
