THE COMPANY

Our client is a small technology company that specializes in design, engineering and consulting services.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Seeking a hands on Controller. Responsible for maximizing return on financial assets by establishing and managing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing company policies and procedures.

Identifies key business drivers underlying financial performance.

Provides insights on risks and opportunities and their financial impacts on the business

Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.

Conducts internal audits. Provides information to external auditors.

Manages and reports on cash flow.

Prepares invoices and manages accounts receivable

Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data.

Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.

Provides regular status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.

Manages company payroll and standard HR processes

Complies with federal, provincial, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing financial reports; filing taxes and advising CEO on needed actions.

Ensures operation of equipment by establishing preventive maintenance requirements and service contracts; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.

Establishes and oversees spending authorization limits

Oversees company facilities. Negotiates leases and leasehold improvement

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in finance.

Post-secondary education in business or finance. B.Comm or MBA preferred. CPA preferred.

Proven experience in Managing Processes, Financial Software, Developing Standards, Auditing, Accounting, Tracking Budget Expenses, Analyzing Information, Developing Budgets, Tax Planning and Performance Management.

Previous experience with project- based technology companies would be an asset

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to multi-task and be hands on within a small but growing company.
