About the role
The General Accountant is a key contributor to Anova’s Finance function, responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and delivering accurate, timely financial reporting across multiple clinic entities. This role consolidates and reviews financial inputs from Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, performs reconciliations, prepares journal entries, and completes the full month-end close cycle. Working closely with the CFO and Finance Controller, the General Accountant supports management decision-making through reliable financial statements, variance analysis, and forecasting support. The role also plays an important part in audit readiness, compliance with tax and statutory requirements, and the continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls. Success in this position requires strong technical accounting knowledge, analytical thinking, and the ability to operate effectively in a deadline-driven healthcare environment.
Crucially, you will share the founder, Dr. Marjorie Dixon’s commitment to being the gold standard for successful reproductive health and fertility centres. This position will work closely with all members of the Finance team but will ultimately report to the CFO.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
General
· Collaborate effectively with co-workers across departments

Role-Specific
· Review and reconcile Accounts Receivable transactions posted to the general ledger, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and appropriate entity allocation
· Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
· Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations for multiple legal entities, investigating and resolving reconciling items promptly
· Reconcile intercompany transactions
· Prepare monthly Physician reconciliations
· Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, intercompany charges, reclassifications, and adjustments
· Ensure all journal entries are properly supported, documented, and approved in accordance with internal controls
· Maintain and reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts, ensuring balances are accurate and fully supported
· Assist in preparing monthly financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
· Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
· Assist in analyzing financial results and prepare variance explanations for management review.
· Complete the full month-end close process, ensuring all reconciliations, entries, and schedules are completed within defined timelines
· Maintain ongoing audit working files using inputs from AP and AR teams, ensuring documentation is complete and audit-ready
· Support forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning activities by providing accurate historical data and analysis
· Liaise with departments across the organization to obtain financial information, clarify transactions, and ensure transparency
· Respond to internal inquiries related to financial results, balances, and accounting treatment.
· Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, responding to auditor questions, and providing supporting documentation
· Prepare and file government remittances, HST returns, and other tax-related reports.
· Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls
· Monitor financial controls and ensure adherence to accounting policies and procedures.
· Assist the CFO and Finance Controller with ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and special projects
· Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal governance requirements
· Maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment in all financial matters
Qualifications and Requirements
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
· CPA designation (completed or in progress) preferred
· Knowledge of Canadian accounting principles and taxation requirements
· 5+ years of accounting experience in a corporate or public accounting environment
· Strong hands-on experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting
· Solid understanding of general ledger accounting, accruals, prepaids, and balance sheet reconciliations
· Experience preparing financial statements, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow
· Experience supporting internal and external audits
· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial analysis and reconciliations, Pivot tables, look-up
· Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, or QuickBooks, Payworks, Accuro
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
· Ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict reporting deadlines
· Ability and willingness to work in office 5 days per week
· High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
· Medical clinic office experience an asset
