WHAT DO WE DO?
We bring product to the people who make retail feel like something.
CTG Brands Inc. has designed and distributed giftware, home décor, seasonal, and lifestyle products across North America. Through our Giftcraft, CTG Brands, and Malinda Wines businesses, we supply thousands of retailers — independent gift shops, pharmacies, garden centres, hospital and museum retail, resorts, and national chains — from facilities in Vaughan, Richmond BC, and Buffalo NY.
A single order from one of our customers can cross a dozen tariff chapters and half a dozen regulatory regimes. Getting that right, every week, is what this team does.
THE ROLE
We are seeking a Product Compliance Coordinator to support US import compliance across our product catalogue.
This role sits where product data meets the border. You'll prepare and review entry data with our customs brokers, determine which regulatory agencies have jurisdiction over a given product, and gather the documentation and registration details those agencies require at the time of entry. You'll also spend a meaningful share of your time on the data behind the filings — tariff classification, country of origin, and partner government agency information held in our ERP.
Our catalogue runs to thousands of active SKUs. We are partway through a structured programme to bring classification and regulatory data to full accuracy across the item master, and to build the system controls that keep it there. You will be a core part of that work.
Reports to the Trade Compliance lead. Works daily with Warehouse, Sourcing, Customer Service, Finance, and IT.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Tariff Classification & Origin
- Conduct HTS classification and country-of-origin reviews for new and existing products across a broad consumer goods catalogue — ceramics, glassware, textiles, wood products, metal goods, plastics, personal care, and seasonal items
- Maintain classification, origin, and duty data in our ERP (NetSuite), and keep item records current as the catalogue changes each season
- Determine duty impact of Section 301 and other additional tariffs, and validate accuracy against material composition and end use
- Prepare and support binding ruling requests to CBP where classification is genuinely unsettled
Partner Government Agency (PGA) Compliance
A significant part of this role is determining which agency flags apply to a product and assembling what each one requires. Our catalogue triggers a wide range of them:
- FDA — the broadest of our exposures. Product code determination and manufacturer data for the device (DEV), cosmetic (COS), drug (DRU), and food (FOO) programmes, including establishment registration and device listing numbers for regulated articles, food-contact declarations for tableware and kitchenware, and MoCRA facility registration and product listing for cosmetics and personal care
- EPA / TSCA — Title VI formaldehyde emission compliance for composite wood products, and TSCA import certification statements
- USDA / APHIS — Lacey Act — plant and wood species declarations, including scientific name, country of harvest, and percentage composition
- CPSC — Children's Product Certificates, General Certificates of Conformity, and supporting test reports for lead, phthalates, and small parts
- FTC textile, wool, and fur labelling — fibre content, country of origin, and registered manufacturer identification
- Understanding how CBP tariff flags (FD1–FD4 and equivalents) and agency programme codes drive what must be transmitted or disclaimed at entry, and making sure our data supports the right answer
Entry Review & Post-Entry Management
- Review import entry summaries prepared by brokers for accuracy of classification, valuation, origin, duty rates, and agency data
- Serve as a day-to-day point of contact with customs brokers and freight forwarders, identifying discrepancies and coordinating corrections
- Prepare, submit, and track post-summary corrections, protests, and refund claims through brokers via the ACE portal
- Respond to CBP and agency notices — CBP Forms 28, 29, and 4647, FDA Notices of Action, detentions, and requests for information — within required timeframes, and coordinate the operational response
- Maintain import records and audit documentation to meet CBP recordkeeping requirements
REQUIREMENTS
Essential
- 1-2 years in trade compliance, customs brokerage, logistics, or import/export operations
- Working knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and how goods are classified
- Familiarity with US import entry processes and CBP requirements
- Awareness of the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) — the US single-window system through which CBP and partner government agencies receive shipment data
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with large datasets — lookups, filtering, and reconciling lists running to thousands of rows
- High attention to detail. In this work a wrong digit becomes a detained shipment
- Clear written communication; much of the job is corresponding with brokers, suppliers, and government agencies
- Ability to manage deadlines you do not control, and to escalate early when something is at risk
Desirable:
- CCS (Certified Customs Specialist), CTCS, or another customs/trade compliance certification, or working toward one
- Direct experience with PGA filing — FDA, EPA/TSCA, USDA, CPSC, or FWS
- NetSuite or comparable ERP experience
- Knowledge of CARM and international trade agreements
- Background in consumer products, giftware, or general merchandise, where one order spans many product categories
- Mandarin or another language useful for supplier communication
We are more interested in judgement and rigour than in a particular list of past employers. If you have done adjacent work and can show you pick up regulatory detail quickly, we would like to hear from you.
