Director of Operations
POSITION
The Director of Operations has overall responsibility of managing, directing and coordinating operational leadership and ensuring the company’s objectives are achieved through a hands-on approach to team building, directing, logistics planning and training.
· The Director of Operations works with Division’s managers to develop leadership staff to improve and take on larger and larger projects while the company continues to expand.
· This role works closely with the Human Resources department to coordinate and communicate operational staffing needs as well as onboarding follow-up. The Director of Operations is the main point of contact for this information and must work with the operational managers to set staffing parameters and labour limits within divisions. The Director of Operations approves all staff transfers between divisions ensuring that the right move is being made for the greater good of the business.
· Manage cost controls by actively participating in development of yearly budget planning including capital expenditures with the President. The Director of Operations sees and understands the big picture goals and delivers that information in tangible pieces to the team in the form of projects, goals, follow up and management of time and resources spent on projects.
· Host meetings with team members to assist in achieving short- and long-term goals such as big projects, efficiency, quality improvements, cost reduction, preventative maintenance, safety, training, etc. As well as follow up with this team to ensure goals and timelines are both realistic and being delivered.
· Work Closely with President/Owner to ensure that they are briefed on all operational successes, issues and resolutions.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Must have management experience of large teams
· Must have an understanding of facility or Warehouse Management
· Must have an understanding of Fleet Management and Vehicle Compliance
· Project Management experience an asset
· Be able to understand and develop plans for new builds/renovations (construction background or carpentry) considered an asset
· Business Management Degree an asset but not required
· Recreation/ Event Management Degree an Asset but not required
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· Excellent skills in communication, delegation, problem solving, multi-tasking and team building.
· Ability to understand both the logistical nature and customer service aspects of our business.
· Cool under pressure
· Must have experience with Microsoft Office
· Proven success in maintaining and growing the profitability of a company.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Working hours fluctuate between 40 and 50 hours per week depending on business needs in a combination of operational presence/support and office time designated for meetings with your team and required paperwork. The Director of Operations may be required to visit work sites to assess efficiencies and procedures on evenings and/ or weekends on occasion. When leading large projects such as new builds and larger event installs (such as Glow Gardens or other large events) the expectation is that the Director of Operations would be present to lead this team and assist with solving logistical issues when necessary. The operational demands of the position fluctuate throughout the year being heaviest in our high season (May-December) and more office-based January through May. The ideal candidate should understand that there are certain times of the year that require a more hands on approach to the position and be able to adjust accordingly as needed.
