Position Summary
The successful candidate will create and repair metal structures and pressure piping systems in Division schools and buildings.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
-
installing, maintaining, and repairing water and fire tube boilers
-
reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications and shop drawings
-
performing informal inspections of completed welds
-
utilizing Preheat/Interpass temperature as stamped on drawing
-
welding with power weld positioners (spinners), as well as position welds
-
monitoring the fitting, burning, and welding processes to ensure quality
-
fabricating stairs and catwalks
-
installing and repairing basketball posts, frames, hoops
-
repairing and installing metal ladders for roof access
-
welding ferrous and non-ferrous metals in all positions on both plates and pipes
-
performing SMAW, GTAW, and FCAW processes
-
de-burring and grinding metal to achieve proper surface texture
-
selecting proper filler materials for the application
-
operating flame-cutting and metal shaping equipment
-
preparing materials for welding by gouging and grinding
-
assisting with the maintenance and repair of welding equipment
Education/Qualifications
-
Alberta Journeyperson or Interprovincial Welder Certificate
-
B Pressure Welder certificate
-
valid Alberta driver's license
-
experience working in a school or institutional environment
-
steel fabricating experience is desirable
-
experience with hot water and steam boilers
Skills and Abilities
-
must have the ability to: lift up to 25kg; climb ladders, work at heights, work in small or tight spaces (boilers), stand and walk for extended periods; perform work in awkward positions
-
must be able to undertake tasks requiring good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
-
good problem solving, organizational, time management, and record keeping skills
-
excellent verbal and written communication skills
-
computer literacy
-
ability to work independently or on a team
-
be willing to participate as a member of a committee if requested
Rate of Pay
$45.16 per hour
Closing
Hours: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM; shift work may be required.
The successful candidate:
-
must provide a driver's abstract with 6 demerits or less
-
must satisfactorily complete required occupational health and safety courses as determined by Edmonton Public Schools
-
must complete and pass a police security check
-
must complete addition professional development when assigned
