In addition to our custom molded work, Exi-Plast develops and manufactures a variety of proprietary branded products that are sold by distributors and retailers throughout North America.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Set-Up Technician is responsible for preparing, installing, adjusting, and troubleshooting injection moulding and blow moulding equipment to support efficient and safe manufacturing operations. This role ensures machines, moulds, auxiliary equipment, and production processes are properly set up to meet quality, production, and safety standards while minimizing downtime and scrap as well as maintaining the moulds and equipment, as well as being a key leader in the maintenance \ preventative maintenance of machinery, equipment, and tooling.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Machine & Mould Set-Up
- Install, remove, and change moulds/dies on injection moulding and blow moulding machines.
- Set up and connect auxiliary equipment including dryers, chillers, conveyors, grinders, and temperature controllers.
- Start up production runs and verify proper machine operation.
- Adjust machine parameters such as:
- Temperature profiles
- Injection pressure
- Clamp force
- Cycle times
- Blow pressures
- Cooling times
- Perform colour changes and material changeovers.
Process Optimization
- Monitor machine performance and make process adjustments to maintain product quality and efficiency.
- Troubleshoot processing issues including:
- Flash
- Short shots
- Warpage
- Bubbles
- Burn marks
- Dimensional inconsistencies
- Blowouts \ Deforms
- Reduce scrap and improve cycle times where possible.
- Assist with process documentation and standardization.
Quality Control
- Inspect first-off and in-process parts to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
- Work closely with Quality Assurance personnel to resolve defects or non-conformances.
- Complete production and set-up documentation accurately.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform preventive maintenance on moulding machines, equipment, and tooling.
- Identify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical issues and communicate and work with maintenance personnel as required to repair.
- Ensure moulds and tooling are cleaned and stored properly.
- Ability to make water lines, air hoses, etc., as required.
Safety & Housekeeping
- Follow all company safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and PPE policies.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Team Support
- Coordinate with production supervisors, operators, maintenance staff, and quality teams during changeovers and production runs.
- Train or assist machine operators on proper machine operation and quality expectations when required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in plastics processing or manufacturing preferred.
- Experience with injection moulding and/or blow moulding equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and understand process sheets, work instructions, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with robotics and automated systems is considered an asset.
- Forklift and crane experience may be preferred depending on facility requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift mould components, hoses, and tooling as required.
- Standing, bending, and walking for extended periods.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with heat, noise, and moving equipment.
- Availability for shift work, overtime, and on-call support if required.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with:
- Engel, Nissei, Milacron, or similar injection moulding machines
- Bekum, Uniloy, Kautex, or similar blow moulding equipment
- Scientific moulding/process optimization techniques
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement programs
- Regular maintaining of tools, machinery, and auxiliary equipment
