Strength & Conditioning Coach
Maverick Strength | Nelson, BC
About Maverick Strength
Maverick Strength has been coaching strength and conditioning in Nelson, BC since 2012. We help busy adults, mountain athletes, and everyday people build strength, improve performance, reduce pain, and stay capable for life.
We believe coaching should be personal. Every member follows a structured training plan, tracks progress, and works with coaches who know their goals. We don't believe in random workouts, fitness fads, or chasing exhaustion for its own sake. We believe in effective training, measurable progress, and long-term results.
Our members range from first-time lifters to experienced athletes, but they all have one thing in common: they want coaching that produces real results.
We're looking for a coach who shares that philosophy and wants to make a meaningful impact on the people they work with.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Strength & Conditioning Coach who is passionate about helping everyday people become stronger, healthier, and more capable.
While we work with athletes, most of our members are busy adults who want expert coaching, accountability, and measurable progress. This role includes group coaching, personal training, semi-private training, introductory consultations, and ongoing client support.
This is a coaching-first position with opportunities to grow into greater responsibilities over time.
We are not looking for someone who simply wants to show up, run a workout, and leave. We are looking for a professional coach who takes ownership of client outcomes, enjoys building relationships, and wants to continually improve their craft.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead group strength and conditioning classes
- Deliver personal training and semi-private coaching sessions
- Conduct introductory consultations and recommend appropriate programs
- Design and adjust training programs based on client needs and goals
- Track client progress and provide ongoing accountability and support
- Help members build sustainable habits around training, nutrition, recovery, and lifestyle
- Participate in coach development meetings and continuing education
- Contribute ideas that improve the client experience and strengthen the business
QualificationsRequired
- Current coaching certification (NSCA, NASM, ISSA, ACE, CrossFit, CanFitPro, or equivalent)
- Comfortable coaching both groups and individuals
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Professional, reliable, and coachable
- Ability to confidently lead a room and create a positive coaching environment
- Availability for a minimum of 15 hours per week, including some peak coaching hours
Preferred
- Experience designing strength and conditioning programs
- Experience conducting consultations and goal-setting sessions
- Background in athletics, rehabilitation, nutrition coaching, or youth development
- A belief that strength training is one of the most powerful tools for improving health, confidence, and performance
Compensation & Growth
This position begins at approximately 15–20 coaching hours per week, with opportunities for additional hours and responsibilities as the role grows.
Compensation ranges from $35–$88 per hour, depending on experience, certifications, session type, coaching responsibilities, and contribution to client success and business growth.
Coaches who consistently deliver exceptional client experiences, retain clients, conduct consultations effectively, and contribute to the growth of the business will have opportunities for increased compensation and responsibility.
Additional benefits include:
- Complimentary gym membership
- Continuing education support
- Mentorship and professional development opportunities
- Career growth within a growing coaching business

- Prefer simply running workouts rather than coaching people
- Resist feedback or continuing education

- Aren't interested in building long-term relationships with clients
