SmartICE is looking for an Electronics Tech to assist with keeping SmartICE equipment in communities up and running. You’ll be the first point of contact for troubleshooting and equipment issues, guiding staff through solutions, coordinating repairs, and ensuring issues are followed through to resolution.
Working closely with Community Services and Engineering & Production, you’ll help make sure equipment issues are addressed quickly and efficiently. You’ll coordinate equipment returning to St. John’s for repair, communicate repair timelines and updates, repair and test equipment, and track recurring issues to help identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
What you will do:
- Troubleshooting electronic equipment failures virtually with Community Services Staff, including assisting with diagnosing and guiding staff through the troubleshooting guide.
- Develop and maintain troubleshooting ticketing system to ensure smooth issue resolution
- Facilitation of support between Community Services and Engineering as required, ensuring completion of the troubleshooting ticket.
- Participate in the on-call troubleshooting by providing after-hours technical support to employees working in communities during the ice season.
- Support the "on-call" planning process.
- Assist with maintenance repair of equipment returned to St. John's, including inspecting, fixing, and testing electronic devices
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair requests by gathering information from Community Operations Coordinators and relay relevant information to Engineering & Production team
- Collaborate with Procurement and Logistics Coordinator to track equipment being returned YYT for repair.
- Provide updates to the Community Operations Coordinator and Operators regarding equipment status and estimate for timing on returning it to the community.
- Report gaps in equipment purpose and actual function in communities to Manager of Engineering & Production
- Document and provide feedback to the Manager of Engineering and Production on common issues, failure points or challenges staff have.
- Collaborate with the Community Training Specialist to ensure that reoccurring troubleshooting issues are included in training.
- Assist with equipment production including recommending best practices, processes, and workflows that support practical, effective solutions.
- Assist with completion of daily SmartBuoy data processing as required.
SmartICE is looking for people who:
- Have an Electronic Systems Engineering Technology (Co-op) Diploma, Electronics Technician Training, or equivalent education, training, or relevant experience will also be considered.
- Have 1-5 years of experience in technical support, field support, or equipment maintenance.
- Have experience with troubleshooting electronic equipment
- Have a problem solving mindset
- Are adaptable to changing priorities in a high paced environment
- Have proven clear communication - written and verbal
- Have experience supporting or working with Northern or remote communities is an asset.
