The Entry Screener provides the opportunity to provide key support to the COVID-19 response at SickKids, in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. In this position, you will have the opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary group, dedicated to ensuring the safety of patients and staff at SickKids. You will interact with patients and caregivers and communicate with compassion. In this role, you will be provided with resources to develop your therapeutic communication and de-escalation skills.
Applicants must be available to work all shifts: Weekdays (days, afternoons, nights) and Weekends (days, afternoon, nights)
Here’s What You’ll Get To Do:
Conducts active screening of patients, caregivers, and visitors to SickKids following established Entry Screening pathways and documents responses on the COVID-19 Screening Form
Assists patient, caregivers, and visitors to direct them to their intended destination
Distributes masks following SickKids masking guidelines and provides instructions on how to properly put on and take off the mask
Prompts everyone entering SickKids to practice good hand hygiene throughout their visit
Responds to patient, caregiver, visitor, and staff inquiries and concerns in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner
Follows procedures to engage appropriate supports as outlined in the Entry Screening pathways
Contributes to the ongoing assessment of screening processes and identifies opportunities to improve quality and safety
Uses error prevention strategies to reduce process and human errors with screening processes
Maintains current level of knowledge of COVID-19 information, resources, and entry screening processes by attending orientation and checking the staff COVID-19 staff site each shift
Participates in the implementation and adoptions of changes to the Entry Screening process
Actively participates in activities that facilitate and promote team work and moral with screening station team
Performs other administrative duties as required
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Completed or enrolled in a health-related diploma or degree program is an asset
Comfort and competence with documenting electronically and accessing electronic documents to guide decision-making
Strong customer service skills
Adaptable and willing to keep pace with a dynamic situation
High level of attention to detail and accuracy
Demonstrated ability to work with a variety and diversity of people and population
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patient, caregivers, and visitors to ensure effective implementation of the Entry Screening processes
Demonstrated ability to lead change and manage in complex environments
Demonstrates approachability, flexibility, and effectiveness to manage uncertain and stressful situations
Ability to speak a second language is an asset
Employment Type: 14 Temporary Contract Positions available, 6 months (with possibility of extension) 6 Full-time; 8 Part-time
