Ferguson Consulting is seeking a PERMANENT full-time (minimum of 40 - 48 hours per week) experienced CAD STRUCTURAL DESIGNER to start as soon as possible.
Job Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years’ 3D CAD
- Must have extensive knowledge in Autodesk Inventor
- Must be able to do minimal design work
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset
- Must be able to read blueprints
- Able to work within a fast-paced environment and have an attention to detail to ensure tight deadlines are met
- Good understanding of math fundamentals
- English language
- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent
Typical duties
- Create 3D structural models of frames, platforms, supports, brackets, skids, guards, and other fabricated structures.
- Develop detailed part and assembly drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
- Prepare fabrication drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, weld symbols, material specifications, and notes.
- Design structural components using composite structures (FRP) according to project requirements.
- Perform or support design calculations for loads, stresses, deflection, connections, and structural stability.
- Select appropriate sections, plates, fasteners, and hardware for structural assemblies.
- Produce BOMs (Bills of Materials) and material take-offs.
- Review designs for manufacturability, assembly, accessibility, and safety.
- Coordinate designs with engineers, fabricators, project managers, and other departments.
- Modify existing designs based on engineering changes, site conditions, or client requirements.
- Check drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards.
- Conduct design revisions and clash/interference checks within assemblies.
- Work with manufacturing teams to resolve fabrication and installation issues.
- Maintain organized CAD files, drawing revisions, and engineering documentation.
- Follow applicable company standards, engineering codes, and health and safety requirements.
