Position: Clinical Counsellor – Veteran’s Mental Health Counselling (Temporary)
Location : Oceanside Resource Centre – Parksville/Nanaimo
Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: $44.54/hour
Start Date: July 2, 2026
End Date: March 31, 2027
We are looking for a Clinical Counsellor to join our Mental Health and Social Services team! This position will provide mental health services to Veterans (former members of the Canadian Armed Forces and the RCMP) who are at risk of homelessness and are unable to access focused mental health services. This individual must have strong interpersonal and therapeutic skills, have experience providing therapy for anxiety, depression, PTSD, and emotional regulation, use culturally responsive practice and work well on a team.

Description of Position:
Reporting to: Mental Health and Social Services Team Leader
General Responsibilities:
- Providing therapeutic support to Veteran’s to improve quality of life and reduce risk of homelessness.
- Build collaborative connections within both communities to support coordination of services for Veterans.
- Provide education and prevention to the veteran population in both communities about mental health.
Program-specific Responsibilities:
- Provide therapeutic treatment based on trauma informed, trauma responsive, culturally safe frameworks focused on anxiety, depression, PTSD and emotional regulation.
- Engage in collaborative assessment and service planning with Veterans as well as addressing critical issues such as suicide risk and self-harm.
- Provide up to 15 sessions to Veterans based on evidence-based treatment related to mental health wellness.
- Actively support the connection of Veterans to resources needed to reduce risk and enhance quality of life.
- Develop and facilitate education/prevention workshops related to Mental Health Wellness.

Qualifications:
a) Mandatory: A Masters’ Degree in Human Service related field (e.g., Psychology Counselling, Child and Youth Care, Art Therapy or Social Work).
b) Mandatory: A member in good standing with a registering body (RCC, CCC, CCPC or RSW).
c) Mandatory: At least 2 years of experience working in programs focusing on treatment of trauma and other challenges related to mental health.
d) Mandatory: Clear Criminal Record Check
e) Mandatory: Valid driver’s License and reliable vehicle.
