The Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills to provide care to individuals, families, groups, and communities across the life span. The IBD RN ensures the development, implementation and ongoing administration of the patient/client care and education. The IBD RN assesses, coordinates, supervises, administers, and evaluates the provision of health services and healthcare resources. Through education and the interpretation of evidence-based healthcare practices and processes, the IBD RN plays a key role in support of an integrated and holistic approach to the patient/client’s health care, health promotion, and health maintenance requirements. The IBD RN provides clinical leadership particularly in complex or unpredictable patient/client care settings. The IBD RN acts as the liaison between the inter-disciplinary team and other providers of care to support the patient/client. Through their vigilance, IBD nurses act to keep patients/clients safe, identify areas of risk, and recognize situations in need of improvement. The IBD Nurse will communicate with patient/client through phone triage and clinic settings. Assessing patients' symptoms, reviewing therapy, and providing education is an integral part of this position. Extensive documentation is required to ensure communication, intervention, and outcomes are reported appropriately.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Must be Connect Care trained. A minimum of 3 years recent Gastroenterology outpatient/in patient nursing experience. Demonstrated excellent assessment, documentation, clinical, organizational, and patient care skills. Proficient in medication administration calculations. A thorough understanding and working knowledge of the importance of biological and biosimilar medication management is vital. Strong interpersonal, problem solving and conflict resolution skills are needed. Ability to communicate findings in a clear, concise, and accurate manner, both written and verbally. Demonstrated ability to deal with stressful situations and work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment. Able to prioritize complex patient care needs and demands, prioritize workload assignments and cope with frequent interruptions. Demonstrate initiative, reliability, flexibility, and critical thinking. Able to identify own learning needs and seek guidance in professional practice where knowledge deficits occur. Able to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships in a multidisciplinary environment. Advanced computer skills are required. Able to push, pull, lift, and move office equipment and supplies as well as walk between different departments. This position includes repetitive tasks such as keyboarding, so the successful incumbent must be able to sit for prolonged times.
