Our client in Caledon (Dufferin Region) is seeking a Part-Time Cook for their Kitchen Staff, at a community Mental Health Care facility. Please see the job details and qualifications below.
Job Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals and meal plans safely and consistently.
- Follow all food safety and workplace safety protocols.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen environment.
- Receive and stock kitchen supplies in a timely manner.
- Monitor food storage areas and support inventory and expiry-date awareness.
- Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, utensils, equipment, sinks, serving areas, and floors.
- Report supply needs, maintenance concerns, leaks, pest activity, or unsafe conditions to the manager or designated lead.
- Maintain positive working relationships with all staff.
- Ensure all food preparation and service areas remain clean and sanitary.
- Maintain kitchen surfaces, appliances, tools, and utensils in a clean condition.
- Ensure food storage areas are properly organized and that food is safely separated from cleaning or hazardous materials.
- Identify and properly handle expired or spoiled food items. Also responsible for food storage, expiry checks, labels, dates, inventory routines and handling dietary restrictions carefully.
- Must be able to communicate with staff of supply shortages/ needs, repairs and other kitchen issues.
- Complete cleaning logs for daily, weekly, and monthly accountability, as required.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Food Handler/Food Safety Certification is required
- 2+ years of previous experience in a kitchen, meal preparation setting, retirement home, group home, shelter, community meal program, or similar environment is preferred.
- Background check or Vulnerable Sector Check/CPIC is required (renewals every three years)
- Strong knowledge of safe food storage, labeling and dating procedures, cross-contamination prevention, and proper separation of cleaning chemicals is important.
- WHMIS awareness is considered an asset
- Must be able to follow all standard SOPs and rules, health & awareness and safety guidelines
- Must be vigilant during training and pass training sign-offs
Pay rate
$21/hr
Shift
part-time position, 9:00AM- 5:00PM, 2-3 days a week, or additional dates and hours as discussed
Pay: $21.00 per hour

Experience:
- Food industry - Cooking in a : 2 years (required)
- Cooking in a congregate/ supportive housing setting: 2 years (preferred)
