This is a full-time position in which the person will lead the Environmental, Health & Safety, (EHS) efforts of the facility, to take the plant to "beyond compliance" status. This includes assessing the present state of the EHS programs, working to reduce injuries and workers compensation costs, assisting in incident investigations and remediation’s, coaching and counseling other employees at the site, maintaining permits as needed, and directing and coordinating emergency response. The incumbent must work closely with all departments to; leveraging lean sigma tools to develop and maintain measurable EHS goals and objectives; modify programs to resolve problem areas; utilize routine inspections, hazard analysis, and training to develop a comprehensive safety program that addresses potential injury situations; empowered to stop any unsafe operation; and ensure compliance with all governmental and Masonite International EHS rules and regulations.

Compliance with Property Conservation guidelines
Maintain all environmental permits and submit reports within required timeframes
Provide required EHS training to employees
Lead KES (Key Element Surveys) and address gaps.
Facilitate and complete risk assessments
Work with HR partner(s) to reduce lost time injuries, reporting and return to work.
Develops, implements, and manages safety policies, procedures, and practices
Leads the safety improvement process and implements safety practices throughout the organization
Conducts safety audits and advises employees on safe practices and potential hazards
Trains production leadership on safety-related topics and coaches employees on accident prevention and safe workplace practices
Creates and maintains a communication process to make safety priorities and performance visible
Ensures systems are in place for an effective safety program while meeting regulatory guidelines (federal, provincial, local) such as record keeping, recording, safety statistics, and trend analysis
Understands regulatory requirements for hearing conservation and maintains compliance through process modifications and updates
Maintains compliance with all regulatory requirements for respiratory protection (including but not limited to; medical tracking and clearance, fit testing, training, and equipment)
Serves as a primary contact for all safety inspections/inquiries and provides technical support for on-going problems and safety violations
Supports the First Responder Program including recruitment of responders, training, equipment, supplies, and documentation
Understands and complies with all other safety related issues (including, but not limited to; confined space, and Lockout/Tagout)
Monitors and coordinates employee mobile equipment licensures and testing (forklift operation, CDL, etc)
Leads the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee. Participates in various safety-oriented activities (e.g., job hazard analysis, ergonomic analysis, etc.)
Maintains Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) management system to monitor and control all chemicals on plant site including routine training, discussions, and communication with all employees involved with chemicals
Communicates safety issues to employees and ensures proper procedures are followed and assists supervisors by monitoring employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Performs duties as assigned by supervisor
BS/BA in a related field (Safety Engineering, Occupational safety/Industrial Hygiene, environmental health, engineering, or Management or equivalent) or at least five years related experience in a similar role.
Must possess excellent communication skills (written and verbal), presentation skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines is required
Ability to make improvements and drive change, not only identifying issues
Ability to engage others and build consensus
Experience and/or training in an EHS related field is preferred but not absolutely required
Must possess effective written & verbal communication skills
Must have strong organizational and record keeping skills
Possess working knowledge of Microsoft software
Working knowledge of worker compensation, and Ontario Safety Regulations
