Our clientele includes major energy producers within Canada and Internationally.
The Equinox Process Engineering Department is seeking a Senior Process Engineer (SAGD/ Heavy Oil) to support the SAGD/Heavy Oil PMPE team and meet client requirements on active and future projects. This position reports to the Process Engineering Department Manager.
For Heavy Oil and SAGD facilities, wellsites and above and below ground pipeline projects:
Lead the delivery of Process Engineering requirements:
- Conduct feasibility and conceptual design studies.
- Perform pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed engineering design.
- Provide start-up and commissioning support.
- Perform and validate process simulations.
Supervise, develop, review, and authenticate key Process Engineering design deliverables:
- Heat and Material Balances, Design Basis Memorandum.
- Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Shutdown Keys, Control Narratives, Process Studies, and other related documents.
Supervise, develop, review, and authenticate key Process Engineering design calculations:
- Line sizing and utility determination.
- Equipment determination / sizing, safety system design and PSV sizing.
- Line hydraulics and other related calculations.
Supervise, develop, review, and authenticate the preparation of process and control equipment datasheets, start-up, and operating manuals.
Lead:
- P&ID reviews.
- HAZIDs, HAZOPs, LOPAs, and other critical safety reviews.
- Review and validation of work done by others.
Mentor Junior / Intermediate Process Engineering personnel.
Support the Department Manager in the development and maintenance of:
- Quality initiatives.
- Processes and procedures.
- Design calculation templates.
Experience with SAGD / Heavy Oil design and construction projects for both brownfield and greenfield:
- SAGD well pads and Central Processing Facilities (CPF) design.
- Above and below ground gathering / supporting pipelines for SAGD and Heavy Oil systems.
Leadership and Problem-Solving:
- Act as the Process Lead on complex problems or a portfolio of projects.
- Client-focused, driving high-quality deliverables that solve customer problems.
- Possess strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Provide mentorship and coordination of Intermediate and Junior process personnel.
Project Execution:

Execute and review Feasibility Studies, Conceptual Design, Process Studies, and Detail Engineering Design for Heavy Oil / SAGD facilities, wellsites, and above and below ground pipeline projects.
Simulation / Modelling:

Proficient with HYSYS and other related simulation software (PipeFlo, PipeSim, PipeSys, UniSim, etc.)
Note: Any experience with OLGA and Stoner is an asset.
Design and Documentation:
- Develop and stamp Process design documents, calculations, tables, and drawings.
- Conduct P&ID / HAZOP reviews, generate Control Narratives, and prepare start-up / operating manuals.
- Provide technical support to field personnel during construction / start-up.
Regulatory and Management Knowledge:
- Proficient in base regulatory requirements related to SAGD / Heavy Oil Facilities.
- Familiar with management of change processes.
- Aware of budget, schedule constraints, and safety considerations.

Education and Qualifications
- Must be a current registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA in the Province of Alberta. Note: Professional Engineering status in other jurisdictions is an asset.
- Possess a Chemical Engineering or a similarly related Engineering degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 18 years of oil and gas experience (preferably in Canada and with an EPCM background).
- Understanding of applicable Canadian Codes and Standards.
- Demonstrated experience in leading projects.
