Are the late restaurant nights and hot kitchens getting to be tiresome and unfulfilling? Perhaps it's time for a fresh change. Bird's Nest Cafe is a busy 40-seat restaurant in the heart of downtown Halifax that serves fresh and fast breakfasts, lunches, and amazing coffee.
Shifts run Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
Position description:
We're hiring a well-versed cook who can assemble and prep dishes from our cafe and catering menus, and has a strong sense of organization and time management. If you have the spark of creativity and a sense of leadership, there is room for high growth in this position.
Responsibilities include:
- Prepping and executing various dishes before and during breakfast and lunch service.
- Greeting and interacting pleasantly with customers, as our service kitchen is open.
- Keep your work station pristinely clean and restocked.
- Prepping menu items for service and catering.
- Preparing your own prep list in addition to tasks assigned to you by your co-workers.
Requirements:
You must have a minimum of 2 years of experience working in a professional restaurant kitchen. We value good work experience over a culinary degree, and a positive attitude and willingness to learn above all else. Knowledge of both classical cooking techniques and baking is a must. You must be detail-oriented and keep a clean station. Your work will be both as part of a team, and entirely independent, so you must excel at both. A valid food safety certificate is a plus, but if you don’t have a current one, we can help arrange for proper certification.
Availability requirements:
You must be available to work daytime shifts from Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
Pay:
Pay is competitive and the tips are great. Pay is bi-weekly and tips are given out weekly, distributed evenly among everyone based on hours worked.
