Oversee the day to day accounting activities and processes for a group of companies
Manage, grow and mentor the accounting team.
Ensure that monthly and annual reporting deadlines are met as per established requirements.
Ensure that all financial transactions are recorded in accordance with ASPE and are documented with complete and accurate supporting information.
Ensure that performance of financial accounting procedures comply with financial accounting policies and procedures, as determined on an enterprise-wide basis as well as regulatory requirements.
Day-to-day management of direct reports, including ensuring monthly duties of team members are performed as expected, reviewing as required to ensure timely, complete and accurate reporting in accordance with policy and deadlines.
Ensure that relevant ERP system master files are maintained as required in accordance with established policy and maintaining proper segregation of duties.
Manage day-to-day cash flow for each assigned company, preparing weekly cash flow forecasts for each company.
Prepare, review and input and annual budget into the appropriate systems.
Prepare files for year end audit.
Work closely with IT department with respect to routine matters relating to ERP or other systems.
Ad-hoc reporting as required.
Other duties as required.
Statement of Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in accounting/finance, with 5 of experience as a Controller and in a supervisory capacity.
A professional accounting designation (CPA, CA) is required.
Experience in enterprise class accounting software (ERP) is required.
Experience in public accounting performing audits would be a strong asset.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to adapt in a changing environment.
Ability to multitask and prioritize.
Demonstrated ability to be a hands-on problem solver, to troubleshoot occasional system issues, as well as recommend appropriate corrective action where required.
Innovative and creative problem solver who has experience challenging the status quo to create a better product.
Strong communication, organizational and administrative skills with keen attention to detail.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Experience in the construction industry and multi-company environment would be considered a strong asset.
Physical/Sensory Effort/Work Environment
Providing service to several people or departments, working under many simultaneous deadlines.
Sitting or standing for long periods of time at workstation.
Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
Overtime as required to meet deadlines.
