The Data Center Facilities Manager reports directly to Director, Data Centre Services Support and assists in all aspects of the Data Center and Co-location facilities which includes evaluating Data Center infrastructure equipment requirements and coordinating necessary resources to prepare space for new or replacement IFDS or client equipment. Support functions include a combination of field maintenance to the secondary data center site for support and occasional activities within the Data Center Service Management team. Responsibilities and duties include, but not limited to reporting via the ticketing systems, end of shift reports, evaluation and assessment of Data Center infrastructure equipment (rack space, power, cabling, UPS, STS/PDU’s, etc.) and coordinating necessary resources to prepare or rectify issues. Assist in planning and general maintenance of equipment and/or systems in the Data Center facilities. Provisioning and removal of internal and client equipment (e.g. Racks, rack PDU’s, cable management, containment, cages, security and access controls, etc.). Primarily responsible for providing on-site support including the receiving, inspecting, tracking, installation, configuration, documentation, monitoring and support of Data Center technology equipment. Implement and review existing policies, practices/procedure and improve overall governance and apply best practices within Data Center. Review documented business and technical requirements to identify potential negative impact to production processes, assess risk, and define requirements that will mitigate risks.
Ensure proper end-to-end installation and testing of fiber, CAT6+ and copper cabling and cross-connects. Perform professional services such inventory and siting of equipment ensuring proper labeling of connections to rack power bars to respective redundant STS/PDU power, identifying and tracking single power supply equipment to ensure redundant appliances provisioned and connected to redundant data center power. Assist with replacements of failed hardware components on systems (i.e., RAM, hard drives, cables, power supply, PDU’s, etc.). Troubleshooting and testing of faulty components and coordinating repair. Perform preventative maintenance on data center equipment according to schedules and ensure effective working of all mechanical data center systems. The Data Centre Facilities Manager will also serve as mentor to more junior staff to help them develop knowledge and analytical skills by working on projects together. General knowledge and understanding of Telecom service provider Hub, POP, & CPE standards for electronics and Power etc. Working knowledge and experience with Networking is desired and strong experience with, and general knowledge of Data Center infrastructure equipment, technologies and concepts (e.g. UPS, STS/PDU, Switchgear, Generators, Fire Suppression, Cable Mgmt., CRAC, and general HVAC, etc.). Comprehensive background and proficiency with computer software such as Office/Office 365 Suite, MS Visio, etc.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Perform preventative maintenance on data center equipment according to schedules
Ensure all data center equipment/ systems are working effectively and available 24x7x365
Oversee bi-annual major/ minor Preventative Maintenance
Oversee and manage IFDS vendors contracted to maintain Data Center equipment
Assist with technology installation to include securing of cabinets, racking of equipment, and cabling of devices.
Provide oversite on work within the data center with a focus on impacts to Client services.
Define and implement data center equipment governance and best practices.
Understand and follow defined equipment standards and operating procedures.
Respond to and update tickets in accordance with department procedures.
Issue problem, change, and request tickets when necessary for both IFDS data center equipment/ infrastructure and client environments.
Perform data center walk-through during each shift to check for abnormal conditions, such as unlocked cabinets/cages, UPS’s, STS/PDUs, audible/visual alarms on equipment.
Must be willing to work weekends/holidays and have the flexibility to work extra hours as required to support data center and management.
Understand the facility support systems (power, HVAC, fire detection/suppression, security); respond to alarms in accordance with department procedures.
When appropriate, escalate issues quickly and efficiently in order to solve problems.
Manage and perform all critical and non-critical processes and participate in various predictive maintenance
Work with vendors to perform periodical Data Center assessments on equipment and capacity
Work with management to plan and coordinate Data Center CapEx/ OpEx expenditures
Maintain knowledge transfer and development of junior members in the organization
Develop standard operation procedures for various operations.
Attend project meetings to ensure that initial business/technical requirements meet data center production services requirements.
Assist with developing a long term strategy for IFDS Datacenter facilities
