JOB:

This is a paid work experience/professional development opportunity. This progressing job program is perfect for those that are in the industry for the "Right Reasons" and with an eye on the long run/big picture. Successful applicants will receive NFPA 1021 Fire Officer training and NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor training and will be placed in leadership roles within the fire company. The fire company performs fire, rescue, HAZMAT and medical services primarily within industry, however does protect ten municipalities as the primary fire department. Officer candidates will be expected to lead firefighters in all fields that the company performs in during routine and emergency operations. Officer candidates will be expected to work a 2 week on, 1 week off rotational work schedule. Each officer candidate will be assigned an area of specialty as outlined below. Specialties are extra areas of responsibility for the officer candidate, but do not replace the standard fire, rescue and medical duties performed by all. Examples are as follows:

  • Firefighting:
  • Preparation, maintenance, servicing and acquisition of firefighting equipment.
  • Safe Driving practices instruction (Class 5Q and 3Q vehicles)
  • Firefighting and Safety Course Instruction
  • Supervision of firefighters
  • Rescue:
  • Preparation, maintenance, servicing and acquisition of supplied air and rescue equipment
  • Safe Driving practices instruction (Trailers)
  • Firefighting and Safety Course Instruction
  • Supervision of rescuers and safety supervisors
  • Medical:
  • Preparation, maintenance, servicing and acquisition of medical equipment
  • Safe Driving practices instruction (Class 5 vehicles)
  • Firefighting and Safety Course Instruction
  • Supervision of medics

PAY:

Officer candidates will receive an initial retainer of $2,000.00 per month for the first six months of their employment. They will also receive job bonus' whenever sent to an industrial assignment or municipal emergency. Officer candidates can expect to make anywhere from $30,000.00 to $60,000.00 in their first year. After six months of service, the officer candidate MAY be promoted to the position of Lieutenant which will raise their retainer to $3,000.00 per month. Lieutenant's will earn between $40,000.00 and $70,000.00. All prices are in Canadian Dollars.

BENEFITS:

Officer candidates will receive benefits through Alberta Blue Cross upon successful completion of their six month probationary period.

TRAINING:

Officer candidates will receive the following training:

  • NFPA 1021 Fire Service Officer Level 1 IFSAC and Pro-Board Seals
  • NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Level 1 IFSAC and Pro-Board Seals

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Over 18 Years of Age
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Valid Class 3Q Drivers License
  • Drivers Abstract
  • Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level 2
  • NFPA 472 HAZMAT Operations
  • EMR with ACP Registration
  • Willing to work a 2 week on, 1 week off rotational work schedule
