Status: Contract position - from June 27th until August 19th

Hours: 35 hours/week

Salary: $16.85/hr plus 4% in lieu of benefits

What is Canada Summer Jobs?

Canada Summer Jobs is an initiative of the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, which aims to provide flexible and holistic services to help all young Canadians develop the skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition into the labour market. To be eligible, youth must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.

  • Note that employees working in childcare centres must be at least 18 years of age. Applicants must also be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident.
Job Summary

The ECE Summer Program Assistant is responsible for meeting the children’s needs for continuance of care, routines and education in the absence of regular caregiver.

Responsibilities

Implement program plans daily as established or modified.
Help set up areas for planned activities and provide a welcoming and nurturing environment.
Provides information about community resources.
Perform administrative duties related to the programs.
Participates as an active team member in staff meetings.
Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all children and families.
Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must be between the ages of 15-30 years of age as per Canada Summer Jobs requirements.
Related experience in a community setting and community programs an asset
Experience in childcare
Comfortable working with ages 18mths to 4 years.
Experience working with at-risk children an asset
Understanding and sensitivity to poverty and minority issues.
Position may require some heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
Fluency in English is required; fluency in Somali, Arabic or French asset; other languages desirable.
