Skid Steer Operator (Finish Work)
With a busy construction season ahead, North Star Contracting Inc. is looking to add an experienced Skid Steer Operator to our grading team. We’re a Calgary-based civil contractor known for quality work, strong crews, and doing things the right way.
This position is best suited to an operator who understands finish work, works well with ground crews, and takes pride in hitting grade safely and efficiently.

The Role
Reporting to the Site Foreman, the Skid Steer Operator works closely with ground personnel and other operators to shape, place, and finish material to grade.
Applicants must have proven experience grading gravel with a skid steer to within a 10 mm tolerance for asphalt and concrete placement.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a skid steer to finish gravel for asphalt paving and concrete placement
- Work closely with ground crews and other operators to achieve accurate grades
- Maintain grade tolerance and surface quality
- Assist with general ground work when required
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently at all times
- Refuse unsafe work and immediately report unsafe conditions or behaviours
- Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings
- Report incidents, injuries, and near misses
- Follow company policies, procedures, and OH&S regulations
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Skid Steer Operator
- Proven experience performing finish grading with a skid steer
- Strong safety awareness and jobsite awareness
- Good understanding of heavy equipment operations and site activities
- Ability to operate other equipment considered an asset
- Strong hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
- Self-motivated, reliable, and team-oriented
- Strong work ethic with a problem-solving mindset
Required Certifications
- CSTS 2020
- Ground Disturbance Level 2
Conditions of Employment
- Must have reliable transportation
- Ability to work long hours and weekends as required
- CSA-approved safety boots
- Ability to sit for extended periods in a vibrating/bouncing seat
- Ability to remain alert and aware of surroundings at all times

- Calgary, AB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Experience:
- finish skid steer roadwork grading within 15mm tolerance: 3 years (preferred)
