Job Summary
The City of Kelowna is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and reliable Children’s Dance Instructor to join our team this Fall. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with kids, confident in their ability to teach foundational technique, and experienced in one or more dance styles such as hip hop, jazz, ballet, lyrical, contemporary, tap, acro, or other genres. Instructors will create a positive, inclusive, and motivating environment where young dancers can grow in skill, confidence, and creativity.
As an instructor, you will teach children (ages approx. 6–12YR) fundamental dance skills in a safe, supportive, and fun environment. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about teaching kids and giving back to our community.
Dance classes can be scheduled Fridays between 3:30pm - 6:30pm and/ or Saturday mornings between 9am- 12pm in the Fall, Winter and Spring seasons
Responsibilities
- Teach age‑appropriate classes — Lead engaging lessons for children ages 6–12, tailored to their developmental stage and skill level.
- Choreograph routines — Create fun, accessible choreography for class combinations, and performances.
- Classroom management — Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging learning environment.
- Skill development — Teach proper technique, musicality, coordination, and creative expression.
- Communication with families — Provide updates on student progress and upcoming events.
Qualifications
- Experience teaching or assisting children’s dance classes in one or more styles.
- Strong understanding of dance technique and safe training practices.
- Ability to create age‑appropriate choreography and lesson plans.
- Positive, patient, and energetic teaching style.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional.
- Dance education, certifications, or competitive background are considered strong advantages
- Current First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain within the first 6 months).
- A clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.
