Job Overview
An IPM Scout observes and records pest and disease presence in protected crops to aid greenhouse growers, owners and Koppert Technical Consultants in developing, supplying and maintaining biological systems and controls.IPM Scouts have high degrees of organization and analytical skills. IPM scouts are responsible for being diligent, attentive workers capable of spotting deficiencies and diseases on various types of flora and fauna
Summary of Functions
- Observe greenhouse pests and diseases
- Tag observations
- Record observations in IPM Scouting App or map
- Install and replace Horiver traps
- Install biological controls
- Communicate observations with Technical Consultant
- Maintain and submit accurate timesheets
- Report health and safety incidents and/or accidents to Scouting Supervisor
- Adhere to the work schedule
- Perform other duties as required
Core Competencies General Competencies and Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Knowledge and/or interest in common greenhouse pests
- Visual and detailed oriented
- Ability to work independently and un-supervised
- Good verbal and written English language skills
- Experience in greenhouse environment is an asset
Technology Competencies
- Scouts will work with a variety of tools and technologies
- Navigation of basic computer systems (browser, outlook, excel)
- Usage of company provided cellular phone
- Timesheets are currently tracked through Microsoft Excel
Behavioural Competencies
- Scouts are attentive, with a focus on efficiency and safety
- Ability to walk long periods of time
- Ability to work in warm and humid conditions
- Ability to work at height of up to 3 meters on a scissor lift/cart and Ability to see full colour spectrum
Work Environment What you can expect
- This position requires to be physically able to endure outdoor or indoor climates including hot or cold extremes and walking on uneven surfaces. Regular exposure to pollinators (bumblebees) will occur.
- Ability to work flexible hours or weekends as needed.
- Personal car to travel between clients (mileage to be reimbursed by company)
- Have a clean driving record
- Legally able to work in Canada
