The opportunity:
As the apex of the Architect role, the Principal Architect guides all major architectural decisions within the organization. Beyond technical leadership, they provide coaching and mentorship to architects across the enterprise, acting as a bridge between Enterprise, Core Service, and Technical Solution architects. The Principal Architect works closely with the other Principal roles (Solution Consultant, Infrastructure, Information Security, Development)

The Principal Architect is the face of architecture in key engagements with Symcor’s external partners, vendors, and customers.

What you will do:
Research and recommend new technologies to improve technology delivery qualities such as reliability, scalability and flexibility, time to market, and enhance and extend the capabilities of current technology service delivery to accommodate future growth.
Understand technology trends, underlying technical and strategic implications, and applicability to Symcor’s strategic direction.
Lead the analysis of technology industry and market trends to determine their potential impact on the Symcor technology stack (eg. Tech debt, downstream skillset and training impact, implementation cost, exit cost, etc)
Continually update knowledge on new technology to support company strategic direction
Provide use cases and success criteria for proofs of concept conducted against new technology
Lead the development of architectural best practice and governance in order to ensure that technical solution architecture complies with Symcor’s security and policy standards
Develop and deliver technical reference architectural models (TRAMs)
Develop and drive the enhancement of governance processes for architecture processes
Via direct authoring or collaborating with other architects, create TRAM guides to enable consistent design and implementation of technical patterns within Symcor.
Lead architectural governance efforts, permitting Symcor to confidently leverage external resources to assist in architectural delivery. This includes architecture milestone review, standards documents, occasional code reviews, etc.
Provide mentorship to all architects across Symcor as required, in order to increase organizational strength and cohesiveness across Symcor architecture disciplines, knowledge of industry and Symcor best practices, and overall organizational effectiveness
In collaboration with key stakeholders, identify and document high level technical requirements, provide direction, and make recommendations regarding technology platform choice, ensuring maximum system efficiency as well as rationalization and consolidation of technology. Ensure recommendations provide context for downstream work estimation, engagement with vendors, etc., and are aligned with Symcor’s overall technology strategy. Produce detailed design which meets Symcor’s requirements and standards and business and client needs. Identify required resources and work with the Project Manager to engage the right technical resources to develop and implement the solution.

What you need to have to succeed:
Degree in computer science
3+ years of architecture experience
15+ years of IT experience
8+ years of software development/infrastructure experience
4+ years of leadership experience with experience in a senior leadership role
Demonstrated expert knowledge of software Development methodologies and best practices – Agile methodologies
Demonstrated expert knowledge of systems and software architecture – high availability, secure, scalable

Experience with:
Artificial intelligence – Machine learning, Neural networks
Data analytics & data science
RDBMS experience; data modeling; query pattern optimization
Automation of IT services and production systems – DevOps & RPA
Infrastructure design (network, servers, storage, desktop)
Information Security (PCI)
Process improvement
Vendor relationship management
