HomeShare is an exciting new form of community-based support for persons with disabilities in Nova Scotia. You can be a HomeShare provider by sharing your home with an adult with a disability who requires supports to live in the community, or by moving into the home of the individual who requires supports. We are recruiting HomeShare Providers for the Cumberland, East Hants, Colchester, Pictou, Antigonish, Cumberland, and Guysborough counties.
We are seeking HomeShare Providers who will welcome and support an adult with a disability in their home. Providers must share a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive community. Depending on the person’s needs, a HomeShare Provider may help with things like:
· Building relationships and social connections
· Learning daily life skills
· Preparing meals
· Personal care
· Getting involved in the community
All applicants must complete a comprehensive screening process, including interviews and multiple home visits. Successful candidates must also provide:
- A satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Positive personal and/or professional references
- The ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certification
If approved, CRSS will work closely with you to find a compatible HomeShare match. Before making any commitment, you and the individual will have the opportunity to meet and get to know one another. A HomeShare arrangement only moves forward when both parties agree it is a good fit. Provider funding is based on the individual's assessed support needs.
