Reporting to the Grooming Lead, this role will be hands-on and will be responsible for Grooming the ski hills in the winter season.
During the ski season (December to mid-April), the schedule will be flexible based on the weather and the ability to groom snow. This will include working evenings and nights when optimal temperatures provide for the best grooming. This will include working holidays.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to)
- Responsible to groom, maintain, rebuild ski trails as well as ramps. Maintain snow levels on accesses and around buildings. Farm snow as required by tail condition.
- Assist Snowmaking team with repositioning of on-hill snowmaking equipment when required.
- Refuel and perform daily groomer maintenance checks and complete daily circle checks during each shift.
- Clean grooming equipment (interior/exterior) on a regular basis.
- Responsible for completing grooming logs timely and accurately.
- Perform pre-shift circle checks and paperwork - post shift duties including housekeeping duties and mandatory paperwork.
- Recognize and report equipment issues and property damage.
- Recognize and report or repair potential safety issues including but not limited to lighting, signage, padding and/or poor skiing/ boarding surfaces.
- Maintain a good working relationship and open communication with Snowmaking, Terrain Park Maintenance, Patrol, Lifts, Events and other on-hill staff.
- Communicate an accurate snow/trail conditions report each morning while communicating any unsafe, unusual or hazardous/abnormal conditions to the Grooming Supervisor.
- Works closely with the Operations Manager in the winter to ensure the Grooming plan for each day is being executed.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or vocational training
- 2-5 years minimum of work experience with heavy equipment
- 1-2 years of Groomer Operation experience would be an asset
- Must have a valid Class G drivers’ licence in good standing
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be physically fit and be able to perform in physically demanding activities
- Must be able to work alone without direct supervision
- Must be available to work weekdays, weekends and holidays (day/night shifts) when required. Must be willing to have flexibility with hours and work rotating shifts when necessary.
